Player 1 is level 1
Player 2 is level 50

Question is, if player 1 creates a group, enters catacomb while grouped with player 2, explores one cell (moves in any unblocked direction only once), player 1 then leaves.

Will player 2 be able to explore a small scale map and still normal drops for his/her char level range?

Yes it will still be a small level 1 map with lvl 50 mobs. But the map at the end will most likely be a low tier

Drops are based on level of monster where map spawns are controlled by the size of the map

Here is another way to do it.

Level 1 character creates game and is leader, enters catacomb (setting the catacomb dimension to level 1) and passes lead to level 50+ and leaves game, the DRIVER level will spawn the monster level but retain the same catacomb dimension. In other words, you do NOT have to explore @ level 1 to ensure catacomb size, BUT, you do have to ENTER the catacomb with the LEADER (driver) being level 1 for a smaller size catacomb to explore.
