I'm starting this game for the first time. What char to choose. Any tips are greatly appreciated

Depends on gear but barb does good with swords

In before other users give a novel for tips.

Best available to you would likely be fighter. I enjoy barb too but I find fighter to be better for soloing.

Reasons being is that it has two charge through weapon skills with one of them being power strike. They can use most of the same gear as the barbarian and come with good base vit.

Depends on how much time you want to spend with the game.

If you want to do some solo climbs now & then, you should go with fighter/barb and use ee (enhanced effect) clubs, ee plates/chains and strength charms.

If you want to play a bit more often, don't take clubs but swords. You'll be available to play the first 3 classes of the game then.

If you plan on playing this game alot you should buy daggers & axes, ee leathers/scales and dex charms (+ robes).

The 3 Prime feeders are:
Fighter (#1) / Barb (#2) & Rogue (#3)

I would go with Fighter as well, it has decent Vitality and starting stats. go with swords as your primary weapon, BUT, if you find Gap (level Tier) filler weapons that are better EE and cheaper, then use those.

Since solo, there are two options... Melee Tank (EE weapon and armor with main slot for charm = stat for damage) or Melee Heal (EE weapon & Armor [or stat armor] with EE heal type charm on main slot [Note: can go with EE heal type charm in Acc slot, but effectiveness is reduced by 25% and no other mods on the charm are active]

Others will either agree or disagree.
