I'm level 56 and I feel like my character is shit any ideas on where to improve?

You should have stated more vita, try remembering that for your first climb (too late now)

Use your strength charm in the main charm slot, only EE counts in acc charm slot and that's only useful if you have decent heal charms

Try upgrading your armor, lvl 40 armor with 70 ee has around the same defense as a 55 armor with 10 ee

Bold is true. Red is actually not true. There is a sort of rule of thumb in LS that is only true for high EE items of higher tiers that people think holds true at lower EEs and lower tiers, but it does not. That is, every tier down requires ~20 EE more to be equal. At low EEs, however, as in SCXiao's example, EE counts for more than indicated by this rule of thumb. A 70 EE lvl 40 is roughly equivalent to a 34 EE lvl 55 of the same armor type. So put back on the lvl 40 scale you were wearing before, IMO.
