Heard about the commotion with the new update so figured I'd check it out pretty fun so far currently level 25 Fighter

How rare are wells? Have yet to find one

I believe they should be the same difficulty to find. SOmetimes you get lucky and find 2 in one map but usually it takes a while. It's the disintegrating aspect that makes it even harder now.

Good luck, what's nice is there are a lot of ways to improve your chars atm to keep going. You don't have to stop in the middle and reroll.

Make sure you stat a good 100 vita if you're new and put in power strike and/or retribution for abilities.

they pop up usually every few mazes in the past, sometimes you'll get multiple in a maze
you can now also get a map that has wells in them

You will be fine. Just start adding stats to vita instead of str/dex

Best way to get maps is grind full clear explores on low lvl chars to get +1 well maps.
Took me 2 tries to get one with +2 quantity.
