I am above level 40 somewhere and I do play with what I get as drops as long I cannot afford to buy gear, but I really doubt that I can fight against mobs from the well as long as I struggle with the normal ones.
It is possible to whistle for lower level monsters and still gain exp? Might help continue killing a little bit faster, can heal low to decent but my damage is the weakest point.
When you kill monsters much lower than your level (>5 levels below your character) you will see pretty much no drops at all and drastically reduced experience However, if you drop a non-magical item (no magical properties) into a well, the monster that spawns will be a boss type at a slightly higher level than the item you drop in. So say you are level 40 and you have a lot of trouble killing normal level 40 monsters... Evil presence (boss type) monsters at level 40 may be impossible, yet if you drop a white level 10 or 15 item into the well, it will probably be easy to kill, and you are guaranteed to get at least the item you dropped in upgraded as a magical+ item with the possibility of side-drops.
As Cheeya said above, the best way to generate starting income in this game is probably fishing... but you can also make fg by finding 1-fg skillables for people (junk items of certain, usually higher tiers, and/or those with lots of properties).
For a healer guardian build, you will want to stat pure int, or mostly int with a little vit. And gear with int weapon, armor, and ee heal charm (or int heal charm in main slot, and ee heal charm in accessory slot). However, for this build you will need a party because you will kill slowly as hell in solo mode.
Alternatively, you can go with an ee club, ee armor, str and/or int heal charm in main slot, and ee heal charm in accessory slot for a solo build that can kill things... although guardian is a very slow killer.
(ee = enhanced effect = multiplier for damage on weapon or attack charm, damage reduction on armor, and healing done on heal charm)
