For example when you kill eps and use maingear and then switch to ml gear last hits. Is it that who counts or you need play with ml gear all time? Also i feel like if you kill the ep with powerstrike skill i often doesnt get even a item from it..someone else found out this?

Yes ml does work on muting.

And I believe ml gear equipped as you drop the item into the well has effect on the primary drop, and you kill the moster while the ml gear still are equipped it also bares effect on the side drops.

When you mute crap items. Say a random lvl 20 Legendary item. Is the chance bigger to get a Legendary essence from it with ml gear on or is it just random?

That's totally random, ml doesn't effect that.

For a legendary the chance is 1/7th to get a legendary.
For arcane 1/6th chance etc.
Ml has no effect on the essence creation afaik.
