Hey all, I'm doing another climb after a long absence.

I'm currently using quite a bunch of maps that I had apparently stacked up long ago, and I'm wondering if there's any disadvantage to using these over simply running "normal" catacombs.
At first I thought that objectives were going to be disabled, but apparently that's not the case!

Is there any reason to not use maps, or should I just blast through them all?

No trapdoor and no repop on tilt and treasure at the end
But pop one of your level or you will get no exp

No reason not to tbh, can always buy them with wells too if you wanna do wellables, they just cost more

I use maps when I dont want trap doors.

Say I'm Level 50 on a Warlock during a EP event
I have a +MD or item drops style map with + more eps


I'd rather use that and guarantee I can explore.. without having to summon monsters fighting on squares I've already explored (gaining extra exp before you can find EPs) or falling down a trap door and losing progress.

I run normal Catas to try to get higher maps so I don't have to deal with BS high levels (as long as you don't trust a emblem)

Tds touched on it but the main reason not to use maps is that you can over level them. The max monster level on a map is the map level + 25 (doesn’t work for tier 1/2 maps which have max monster levels of 15/20 respectively).
This means that a tier 5 map (level 10 requirement) will have a max monster level of 35 (I have found you get exp through level 36 as well). It generally isn’t an issue for lower level maps where you complete the map before out leveling it, but at higher levels you will reach the max level before the map is complete usually.

Also, wells can’t spawn on maps unless it’s a +well map (you can get wells from emblems in maps).

Well can spawn on maps from emblems. I've discovered this one but you basically risk so much to use an emblem now lol.. traps can't spawn though correct?

if you TD on a map, does it stays a map or a cata?

I was asking if you can td a map via emblem. Cuz it seems everything else can be triggered

Yeah I said that at the bottom that wells can spawn from emblems

Trap doors can’t be triggered in maps, so no need to worry there

Assuming you can't get a TD in a Map:

Emblems (Pros):
Well, Warm Light, Treasure Chest, Evil Presence, Whistle, XP Boost, Glyph

Emblems (Cons):
Teleport (who cares in map), XP Drain

no reason to not hit the emblem in a map
