Catacombs. Should explore them? Or just walk in and spam T fighting until you can't fight anymore? I'm guessing the only reason to explore is for the treasure maps, but are they worth running?

I've fallen through my 3rd trap door now and am on a new level starting from scratch, again and am starting to think this isn't worth it, however I have no idea.

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Always explore, unless you can't progress anymore.

The main reason people explore catacombs is to encounter Evil Presences. It's basically like a Rare mob in all other games. Evil Presences are stronger, hit harder, but drop much better loot.
Exploring also has the benefit of you finding Glyphs which automatically buff your character with randomly generated stats. Can be a nice little bonus.

The other reason exploring is great is for finding Wells and Trapdoors.
Wells let you toss in items that are "white", "wellables", or simply, items that are plain with no stat on them. When you drop the item into a well, you fight a monster similar to an Evil Presence. In return, you receive that item back (now with stats) and the possibility of some side-drops as well.
Trapdoors let you descend and increase monster damage/health, but can reward you with higher tier items/better drops.

Only spam T or "Whistle" if you can't continue leveling up and want to avoid harder monsters like Evil Presences.

To answer your question about maps, yes they are worth running and catacombs are worth completing to find them. Their bonuses are additive on top of exploring a regular catacomb.

You can always reset your Catacomb if you fall down too many Trapdoors and it inhibits your progression. Just Create a Group, leave the group, and re-enter catacombs and it will refresh the area.

I always explore and try to find Evil Presences.
Also falling thru a trapdoor is good cuz the mobs are stronger and the drop is better

I found if you aren't on a character with trapdoor detection and during an event with no teleport traps there is no point trying to explore the whole map at higher levels, you will spend too much time going over already explored squares, instead just recreate when you would have to backtrack alot and hunt for ep's

Solid advice too.

Another alternative, in the case where you do actually want to complete the map and shoutout to for teaching me this, is when you are on a long path of explored tiles trying to get back to unexplored tiles, is to type /set easy 1.
This limits the range of normal monsters that can spawn to 1-2 instead of 1-3, helping to speed-up getting to those unexplored tiles. Then just /set easy 0 to turn it off when you're back to exploring tiles.
*only works from 1-71 though

This feature determines how many monsters spawn when you are playing solo. In easy mode, only 1-2 regular monsters will spawn, and only 1 evil presence at a time. Regular mode is 1-3 monsters or evil presences. This feature is enabled by default until you complete your first Master Quest of the current season. This only works from level 1 to 71. This does not save between character changes/logouts. You must re-issue this command as desired if you change characters or logout.
To see your current single player mode: /set easy
To enable: /set easy 1
To disable: /set easy 0

Depending on build and level of gear it might be worth playing easy mode all the time, at higher levels the most important thing is to try to spend the least amount of time in town regening, with easy mode you have more warm lights, emblems per monsters killed, you have good enough gear for regular mode tho, gl! If you want to enjoy the game I suggest not putting 1-5 fg items on the market and not deathfarming, you can make more consistent fg but it becomes a chore. Now I shrine everything that is worth less than 10 fg, and will start keeping all whites for welling (besides the ones on mp I already paid fee for), way more fun way to play the game.

Oh wow that is clever. I will 100% be doing that from here on out.

See that's something i know nothing about. Shrining/wells/deathfarming all guides say to keep whites and put them on mp for people but i have no idea what for.

Also, I am trying to figure out why people go past MQ level and don't do it, im guessing just to MF instead of level again?

Usually the bottleneck with welling are a few things, 1. Enough space to store whites until finding a well (for 45-55 items you want to wait for good event)
2. Finding a well
3. Being the right level for welling to maximize amount of side drops
4. Having good enough ml gear to increase chance of good drops

People don't usually go past mq level, but for the unlocked classes you have to go 2 levels higher each time. Also at level 101 I think guild point reward is increased somehow with an event further increasing this, also also there is an objective called mirror maze which takes you higher than mq level by the time you complete it. Nic has a video on his twitch where you can see it.

this all seems relatively complicated, i'm guessing there are ML "breakpoints"? like in D2?

What is the "right level", does this tie into people leveling past MQ level? (which is 71 right?)
