This is not correct. Both bars move significantly faster during faster muting events. The volatility bar moves very fast in both directions when muting items below your minimum. This also means that it is very much possible to fail a T1-T3 item with 58 muting since you can lose like 50%+ of the volatility bar in a second and you don’t even have a chance to react

A high faster transmuting roll is terrible for your prof gains per item so the best thing you can do imo is to just go nuts and shred tons of items way below your rank(assuming you have a decent mute rank). Doesn’t matter much at the lower ranks though since you have an endless supply of items to mute at your own rank.
