if theres one thing i noticed paul doesnt really generalize his characters
he wont say warlock is a casting class and that makes sense to me.
because everyone who plays the game should be able to do it how they like
usually people who hafve shitty gear and cant cast chars like ninja and stuff are usually the people that dont get to climb with the "good" people anyway
Paul does distinguish right here
http://ladderslasher.d2jsp.org/index.php?g=2warlock=The Warlock combines arcane knowledge and divine inspiration to evoke the wrath of the heavens upon his enemies. By orchestrating the spirits of the supernatural and
conjuring powerful magical spells, the Warlock manages to subdue even the most steadfast victims.
His physical weakness betrays his elemental brilliance, so the Warlock must hit hard and retreat as needed.
Edit: adding mage and alchy, the only others where he mentions casting in the the description
The Magician commands the elemental forces of nature into devastating attacks. The Magician, while physically frail, uses his mental prowess to borrow the elements themselves into
concentrated spells against his enemies. Like the Rogue, the Magician's main focus is to hit hard, hopefully before the enemy can attack, as they will not have the physical abilities to stand toe to toe with a foe.
The Alchemist practices the fusion of inorganic materials to produce devices of occult warfare.
His opus consists of inestimable elemental magic and syncretism, and despite his fleeting vitality and jellyfish-like arms, legends tell of his tenacious quest to create an elixir of immortality. When he knocks at the doors of his battle-hungry counterparts, his aura blazes like a thousand suns and his pitiless soul casts death itself into their helpless stomachs.
However, I agree with your next point being that people should be able to play how they like. This means that I should be able to log in right now because I feel like playing and play. Even though the "group" isn't scheduled to play for some hours yet. My options are limited, I can either waste time soloing, where lvls are gained at a snails pace and drops are horrendously bad, or I can try to find a group and most likely it'll be be "randos" with bad gear. If it was a group of good geared slashers, they would make a run from 1-71 and I wouldn't be able to join them since they pre arranged their group. There are many people that can cast effectively on any given char(hh aside since not everyone uses lightning). Just as many people can melee on any given char effectively(paparick and his melee lock). However, something needs to change so that melee isn't taking a backseat to everyone wanting to cast. If I could have all my fg back and start now, I would get a really good casting set and be a caster on all classes. Why? Simple, Paul keeps fucking melee over, most recently by making all the gear we had useless. For melee you need str setups, dex setups and str/dex setups. For casting you need intel and that's it(max mana is nice too, but with shrining whenever, it's not as needed). So for casting, get one set of charms, one set of staves, one set of swords(all casting modded) and one set of armors and you are set to go for any class. It's a lot smarter to do it that way then having 2-3 melee weapons setups, 2-3 melee armor set ups, and 2-3 melee charm setups. Caster=4 sets, melee=6-9 sets. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that casting is the way to go.

Tom you had some really good points and I wanted to comment on them but since it was mostly "agreed...couldn't of said it better" and the like, I decided not to
