I've seen catacombs figured out how to move and attack monsters, grab loot. Xmuting, and general income still elude me as to what to look for. DO I just continue in cata until max lvl then attempt MQ? Still learning a lot of the basics. Any help or advice would be appreciated.

The best way to make fg is to simply play. As you play pick up items and sell them.

Go to the later posts and see what he is in search of. Collect them on mules and then put them up on the market for 1 fg and he will buy them when he gets online.

After you make some fg off of this you can buy yourself some gear which will help you get to lvl 71 faster. The more you play the more items drop therefore the better chance of you finding something nice.
It will cost you some fg to get there but you can also make a fair amount of fg each climb. Many climbs I can grab ~50 items that nara can glyph.
