As I stated before... start here first, no need to take leaps and bounds by other changes that
may never happen in 2 years...

So, I decided to start on getting some more Hardcore players from Kirby and AB,
combined, we have around 5-7 HC players, around 2-3 permanent ones. Also decided
to leave it open for otehr HC guild members to post up and maybe check to see
if some of us are running...

So, we created a separate chat, just for HC members in our guilds... hopefully this
catches on with other guilds or maybe it will help them find those extra ppl
to fill in that spot or 2 in a climb...

All the brainstorming is good, but we get "If you don't like my game, don't play it"

I think you just sink or swim.
I have opinions -  (I don't like the fast climbs, because now if you can only do a partial climb due to family responsibilities, or because you crash after 96 hours on duty at work, you cannot find a game)
But what's the point?

InB4 I get warned for being negative.

This...
I'm with you here cause I've had the same problem finding climbs.
Do I want to invest more in this game and sacrifice real life?
No thank you.
But because of that, ouch not easy to get into groups.
That's in sc ofc..

I have recently given a shot at hc (yes, hc, on dial-up  ) but I'm being helped by Kirby guildies who are really friendly.
No pressure, no deadline, no hurry, only fun :)

If I had to pay money to play this game, I wouldn't play.

This.
But even without investing real money, I find it hard to maintain the vault without having anything to sell and make fg..
So I sell whatever I can find that is worth 1 fg...
Gold In/Out: 153.25 / -11.50
Average sale = 0,95 fg .....

I'm not gonna lie, I miss a viable-worth-my-time-way of playing this game solo even with 2 people drops are just ridiculous. The removal of the arena 'as originally intended' has had the biggest impact to my slashing and my want to really slash.

I mean it's fun and all doing 2 hour full guild or proper group climbs, but I prefer to login do a 1-30 in the morning go about my daily routine do a 31-55 and finish it at night, and if I feel like it i'll hop in a group, but not hopping into a group now just makes me feel like I am wasting my time even more than before. I know the game is a waste of time, but it used to be a fun waste of time :)

The whole discussion about having good gear, or not is kinda obsolete in my opinion as it doesn't really matter anymore how good your gear is not to the extend as it used to matter I have a pretty nice reset-set but if I compare my feel of the game playing with someone with mediocre gear say 70-100ee stuff I don't see myself excelling like I used to when I would play arena. Having nice gear is cool and pretty but it's not a necessity anymore.

There is no way to replace a full nice setup if you rip on hc anymore, al though ripping in this version of the game is kinda hard with a good group but still.

I know the common response to this will be, if you don't like it or enjoy it just quit bladiebladiebla... But the players from day1, hc/sc or that have been around for several seasons pre-this update thingy have invested so much either time, money, or both that makes it just a waste to give it up.

Ah well just my 2 cents :)

Also my point of view.
2 people or solo in cata is a real waste of time, unless you are farming tier 1 items.
You don't even need good gear now to do well, so ofc people don't even need to invest in gear to go to MQ.
I have spent thousands of fg to get a proper weller, I don,t even play a caster anymore so it's all gathering dust.

Muting and welling were fun and I could do it and get my gear that way (barely sold anything... using my self made items).
On dial-up, forget about any skill, so muting is out of the question for me, it's n ot a question of being lazy and get prof, it's just impossible on a 31.2 kb/sec connection.
So there goes the fun I used to have in slashing.

Arena... nothing better for people who can't do a full climb cause of time restrictions, to just have a coffee and kill a few monsters in arena (or in a well).
Now with everyone wanting to do 1-71 afap, as Lee explained, it has become pathetic.
Arena was perfect for us older people with responsabilities :p

Before we can get a lot of new people to join, the current players need to be able to get more out of the game. Solo needs to be a viable and competitive option in this game again. Everything in LS has gotten a lot faster and easier, except solo play.

You can't get 56k though? That was the standard for dial-up even like 15 years ago, and it'd make a difference for you.

Adding like Fake players to fill catas like you see in like first person shooters the "bots" or w/e use these to slash with you to help you level quicker rather than solo since most people do not have the gear to do this on their own effectively enough to want to do it. and of course cant get a group late at night or during the week most of the time.

this would make people do more than just 1-71 and not feel like its needed to reroll if they get dropped off @ 40 which is where most new players find theirselves the mid levels and cant go any further.

just an idea i thought about last night not very well worded like all the rest of my posts.

You know the biggest problem with getting new people to play this game? It's a flash game where you simply click the screen the entire time. There's no substance. No storyline or real quests (If you want to count objectives, I guess, but Explore the maze and Mirror Maze is the only objective you have power over getting). The coolest part of the entire game is when you're walking up the steps to get to the door and drop down a key. I've had maybe 3 friends make JSP accounts and try to play LS with me, and all have said they'd rather play WoW, LoL, or something different. It's a special kind of person that can play this and stick with it.

Alright, it seems most ppl are thinking that small tweaks to current game play are going to bring ppl to the LS login screen in droves.  I believe we need to think big picture here tbh.  However, before I step up my soap box I want to touch on the below comment:

The current speed of climbs is absolutely perfect!  RL obligations make 4+ hour climbs unreasonable.  Check the research, there is a reason games like WOW opt for games to be 1.5hours to 2.5hours.  Paul has the timing perfect atm.  If ppl want the season slowed down, add an extra 4 and 5 door class.  Problem solved.  derDrops, this particular suggestion will hurt LS quite a bit.

Alright, now back on task.  The purpose of this thread was to get more ppl playing this game.  How do we do this?

  • Advertise
Think about all those facebook games that have millions of ppl playing them.  Many aren't written for fb, but there is advertisement there which gives a nice 1 page overview with a link to click to join an offsite game.  Guess what, this could be easily done for LS too.  Pulling from millions of ppl could easily have say 1% try out the game that click the link.  Imagine LS with over 10,000 new ppl starting up this month!

  • Advertise Everywhere
Don't miss out on opportunities to talk up LS in the DF and other threads.  d2jsp.org has hundreds of thousands of GAMING members.  Think of LS as a blessing you are compelled to share with the world!  Many have tried it and don't realize all the changes that have been made to the game and need a revisit.  Even more so are ppl who have yet to visit LS--lets show them what they're missing ;)

  • Keep our guides up-to-date.
Maintaining a place for first timers to initially draw basic knowledge from is vital for newcomer retention.  Not only does this help make stronger beginner groups/players, but it also reduces the elementary questions posed in thread and reduces the need for veteran players to handhold and repeat similar advice over and over again.

  • Follow the Golden Rule
Luke 6:31 "Do unto others as you want others to do unto you."  It's simple, if you want to build this player base, work on retention.  Be nice to ppl and they're more likely to stay.

Even getting 1000ppl playing LS at all times would completely transform this game and I think that's Easily possible.  Imagine what 10,000 ppl would do for us.
I hope that some Marketing Minded ppl team up with Paul and the current culture is to not accept simply resting on the laurels.  This game has some many more plateaus yet to reach :)

Didnt read all but I disagree with 2 hours climb. Even if I like it, it doesnt help new commers. Alot of people dont have time to do 1-71 in 4 hours so there would be more player in level 5-70 range. Atm if a new get to level 48, he is screwed cuz no group. People only want 1-71 when it takes only 2 hours. Didnt you see all those cry topics about no groups nowaday?

It's not the responsibility of all of us to carry newbs, it's their responsibility to get good

Nobody deserves anything, if they want it they need to work to get to a competent level
