Highest from each character get's added, they dont add together. Only the higehst from each.
Also, how is softcore benefiting from that? it would actually be the killing for deathfarmers (which is an actual thing on softcore today)
It actually purely benefit hardcore because you can now die on a character and only lose %prof like we do on softcore. Ofc you lose the character and gear, but u dont lose your 10year profhunting.
