I agree that the mailbox concept adds very little to the game.
What is does add is a more secure method for people to dodge fees and the potential to store items in the mail bypassing vault.
What the LS market needs are two things.. A larger player base and a market that supports auction format rather than just BIN.

You need to think differently... the idea has merit, but, implementing it with more benefits need to be addressed.

1. Make a trade topic! (simple right)
2. Any PMs sent to you about this and that needs to be replied with: "Post this in my trade thread, also, I have copied this and will also add it to the thread"
3. When a person has either Bin'd an item, or you as trader accepted their amount (which needs to also be posted in trade thread), you can transfer item to Private Trade with Username etc.
4. Coding needs to implement trade thread and also Private Trade. Thus, no one can put item up at 1-50fg (when item is 200-XXXXfg amount to ignore FEES)
5. ETC
6. ETC... and so on.

So, instead of bitching it could be abused, how about implementing that this idea can work. How would you deter the issues you see that could happen? It is simple... if you can think of a con to the suggestion, you can also see away around it. This is why 90% of NO votes are basically pathetic, they know the cons, but they don't want to think of how to stop it from happening.

Add a search feature to the mail system that allows people to place minimum that their mailbox will always accept for x amt of fg. (ex: skillers buying skillables for x amt of fg) would take up much less space on people actual mp so players can add more than skillables to sell on their mp.

My theory for the reason there are hardly ever good items on the mp is: Players put more weight into putting 1-3 fg skillables on the mp ahead of anything else they would want to sell. Reasons being:
That 1-3 fg is almost always guaranteed profit for skillables. Some days skillers don't buy the skillables and they are stuck on your mp. Well before you know it your mp is filled with 1-3 fg skillables as well as your vault with the ones you are saving to put on the mp afterward.
No new gear that isn't skillables ends up making it onto the mp. Therefore the mp will end up bare as it is now. Even with the implementation I just suggested it could be taken advantage of so it would require some tweaking. I think the best way for the mailbox to happen would be to make it linked to your vault. (Must have enough vault slots for all items mailed) With that said it would have to cost fg to open the mailbox. Idk just a thought.

The mailbox idea itself is basically a shell for much more new content to go with it. Don't think of the mailbox idea as the basic thing originally presented, but all the future adds that could be included in makiing the mailbox something everyone could enjoy.

So basically I can place lvl 1-3 trash in the mp for 1 fg and your mailbox will automatically buy it? Great for me....bad for you....

Unless I am missing something in this idea of yours

In theory, since you'd be able to buy specific skillables, you'd be able to buy say any item with 100+ee @ 5fg or less

Let's examine this suggestion a bit.

Assume the mailbox concept is instituted.
In real life, the Post Office rents out their mailboxes, so one can expect a fee for the use here as well

To ensure that non-intended purchases are made, a password, known only to the seller and buyer could be used.
This is like an insurance policy, and of course you would have to pay a premium for this option.

And don't forget the 5% sales tax applied to each and every sale.

How many 1-3 fg items need to be sold in order to offset these costs??
(Depends on the fee, premium and sales tax costs ofc, but it aint a gimme)

This is where you use the Marketplace just to trade off skillable items or the odd 1+ item via the trade section.
The mailbox is used in conjunction with Full set trades or group item trading with 1 other person, also, the Mailbox intercedes with the information in the trade thread: e.g. Alex posts trade thread: Sword set @ 2500 BIN (there are 10 items), now Bob posts in trade thread "BIN Sword Set @ 2500" ... Now, Alex goes to Mailbox trade, puts in Bobs number (the username number assigned) and puts all 10 swords in and sets price @ 2500, now the standard trade fee is removed. The items stay there until Bob confirms purchase. (this is where some people may change their mind, also, this stops sniping and also fee manipulation)

Also... the skillable 1-3 fg items can be replaced after the 24 hour deadline has been met. It just takes some co-ordination by the user to keep things up.

As I stated previously, there could be an additional fee using the Mailbox, also, the limit would increase &/or expiry time.

I got no power at my house

Generator running keeping basement from flooding

I’m working in a case of beer

But. I will finally say this.

This is actually a good idea. But it needs to have some sort of fg value added to it
