Going to decline on my previous proposition, it defers from your ideal competition, so in relation towards Highest EE or Stat item found.

Using the Bufcore scenario, everyone starts off equally with base gear, and can record their findings during their climbs by posting them, please note that some very nice EE items have been found during Bufcore. Also, you can ascertain the value of the item(s) and prize appropriately by Tier and % EE or Stat. Since people are starting from scratch, drops aren't manipulated by Magic Luck gear already been bought or found previously.

You may also separate Bufcore with Group climb prizes is you want. It has been already noted that one can identify a new drop versus a previous drop by way of the item(s) ID# by viewing the source code, this means the items will have to on character(s) and not put into a Vault.

What stops someone from saving up/buying a bunch of whites and welling them on their main with ml, or rolling essences after the event starts and claiming they found it on their buffcore?

Simple... Bufcore characters at level one start off with white items (based on their class and what is available, all Tier I) ... they don't have magic luck, they have to post the items they find, and because of different timeframes, you can view their character and catch them in the act of using Previous found gear like magic luck items &/or White items because you use the View Source code and find the ID# to be shorter than during the events or before starting the event(competition).

Hence the reason that they have to have ALL items found and used on characters and NOT in Vault.

Yes, it takes time, but one(1) hour before the competition even starts, you can identify the latest ID# before competition, and if the items used have a LOWER number(#) in ID, then that was found previous to the competition.

EDIT: oh, by the way, a new character starting as a Guardian ONLY starts with a Tier I White Club and Tier I Regular Heal... as long as they start with that crap, the ID# doesn't count, but a Guardian, does NOT start with any armor. Thus bufcore for self found gear etc.

I needed an example of a User that has NOT included Ladder Slasher into their Profile, I have chosen JonWon:

https://forums.d2jsp.org/user.php?i=291978

Now from the profile, you can NOT access his/her Ladder Slasher characters ... But, if they do play LS, you can easily find their characters (if they have any) ... it is to do with the Address bar;

So, I will go to my Profile:

https://forums.d2jsp.org/user.php?i=234344

As you can see, we have different ID#s (User), mine is 234344 and JonWon is 291978 (thus joined later than myself)

I click on My LS character(s) link: View All

https://forums.d2jsp.org/user.php?c=3&i=234344

Now, what has changed?

https://forums.d2jsp.org/user.php?c=3&i=234344 (thus being able to view my LS characters, so, just copy the Users ID# on the end:

https://forums.d2jsp.org/user.php?c=3&i=291978
and let us see what happens?

And viola, you have access to all of JonWons characters.

Now you can click on one of the characters and see all the items on that character, you can then right click and "View Source" and find the ID# of all the items on that character etc.

EDIT: And a ton of LS players think I am an idiot without realizing that they are just playing Checkers to my Chess.

Explain please how do you tell if an item was found on the buf character or a different character after the event starts

I have a few solutions to some of this.
As i said one way is simply to have a screen recorder active for any people attempting it. I would only really need to check footage of winners. however i dont think too many people would want to do this, despite the screen recording software being free and easy to use.

Saying this as far as current voting goes, there is only 2 votes for buffcore. There is also a big problem of welling items not found on the buffcore character. As the item ID will be replaced. So i would be unable to prove that any magical+ item was not gotten by lobbing something into the well. only 2 solutions and that is for screen recording or to allow welling of gear, this completely loses most of the buffcore aspect as people would have full t3 gear as soon as they found a well.
I'd need a lot more votes of people to say this is something they want to do, as it is i suspect the majority would vote to not see this tbh

I have an "idea" of what i'd like to do. I'm currently more inclined to do a "best drop" than to do "buffcore" and i'm not going to state what my intentions are yet. But i believe i can make it fun and keep "cheating" to a minimum and if cheating does happen for me to have better chances in locating the cheaters.

I only really play on my phone when I’m at work or in bed so I wouldn’t be able to screen record. :( Life too busy for me to sit down at my desk and game these days.

What if there is a prize pool split for finding the best item of each type and tier, let's say 12x fg for highest damage daggers, x fg for each person who finds the best tier y from III-XIV that way instead of winner takes all many people could win small amounts and I doubt muters would start gathering low tier essences so no unfair advantages.

Hey, as promised I gave it some thought too.

I also caught up with what you guys said here in this topic and looks like most of the ideas will cause some problems :/

So, here's mine ;)

Let's make an event with 24 small little tasks for each day that will grant tickets to the raffle! It could be handled many ways and I trust we can come up with something stable, but for instance there could be 2 tasks for each day: easy and hard

For example:
find lvl 55 white item with a group (+1 ticket) - so each member of the group completes the task and perhaps only 1 screenshot for all 5 members would be enough / solo'ing (+5 tickets)
find an item with magic luck on it (same way +1 as easy in a group / +5 tickets if done solo'ing)
find a legendary item for solo or godly item in a group (+2 tickets)
kill one of the corners (requires at least 3 screenshots with time stamp, so it can be seen it has little life taken, then with little life left and final screenshot to show it's a corner of the map) - as a hard task for both solo/group

also:

- all tasks would require at least one screenshot with a time stamp from our phones or computers (then depends on a task: mobs, items in a drop window, chat log, etc.)
- could be time zones friendly, so it's until 23:59 of our own time OR each participant could state which time zone he would follow (good for ppl that like to start their day later and play after midnight)
- bonus tickets after like completing 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 consecutive tasks

There could be more, but I don't know if you guys like this idea, so not gonna go overboard with ideas and examples on how it could work :P
