Sadly, i have a good friend who has shrined his MQ casting charm & a borrowed guildies MQ casting charm and has now quit LS over this. Easy 50k+ fg and a best in game down the drain...
Who else has fallen victim to this easily avoidable pitfall?

Not me, I pay attention when I am shrining gear, and if I had something worth 50k, I would look at everything I shrine ten times, hell I probably wouldn't even use the shrine if I was that worried about it.

I mean no offense to you nor your friend, but come on... if you shrine something of value, it is no one's fault but your own. Be more careful!

If this was really a huge epidemic, we would see daily "OMG I SHRINED MY GEAR" topics.

I do have this problem when I use a coin to wedge my control key down for auto-casting aka lazy man casting. That way I no longer need to hold the congrol key, I can just spam click everywhere. Just need to remember to REMOVE the coin when going back to town to shrine, otherwise you will swap gear in/out and bad things happen.

Not sure if you guys are doing this trick too, I would assume so as it makes casting a whole lot less painful on the hands/wrists.

Never had this problem, as I am constantly shifting from holding trl for casting, and not holding it for healing...
Maybe if more casters were healing they would get used to what their fingers are doing :p

Maybe you want to get a confirmation window? "Would you like to shrine your GOZU robe" ;). I don't think that is a really big problem. Just double check what's going to shrine.

Haha had to say you made me laugh on that one!!!!

I think the thing is you can actually jam your control key down (with a coin, tape, etc) and you can still switch from splat-casting to healing and it will work fine. You can even chat and such without any errors. HOWEVER... when you return to town, open your inventory, and click on anything, the control key is still jammed, resulting in you switching the shrine with whatever gear you had. I am guessing they are using this, I do it all the time because my hand cramps up from casting as I am also driving a lot too.

If you aren't paying attention, you can easily shrine gear. Has always been this way!

When your gear is worth 7 figure you tend to want to protect your investment as much as possible. I also care about the friends I play with.

The solution is simple really. Pay attention, and also tell your friends to be more careful with other person's gear. Get into the habit of not having anything but shrines in your inventory, keep the good stuff in the vault. 100fg is a small price to pay to keep your godlies close at hand, and yet safe from the shrine/trash.

I would be fine if a different button was used for megacrit.

But I will put people in their place when they act like it was not their fault for making such a terrible and blatant mistake.

If you shrine something in this way, don't cry about it. It is your fault, not the control button.

I agree. Being hasty will lead to mistakes. This game has become more fast-paced, people need to pay more attention or slow down a little.

Sorry that the <ctrl> button wasn't changed sooner.
I really feel absolutely horrible for you Dion :( -- I wouldn't want that to happen to anyone.

ouch, that's such a beast of an item to lose :(

I understand accidents happen, this one must have sucked.

In my inventory I keep all my "good" or next lvl up gear (if its not on a mule or in vault) in the very first spaces as to not mix up my inventory with good gear and crappy shrineables.
I also double check every item I shrine before just throwing it in there. If it takes me a "few" extra seconds in town, idc. I'd rather be safe than rush back to the catas...

sorry for his loss, such a beautiful charm.

I can't even wrap my mind around 7 figures... let alone having gear worth anywhere near 7 figures

Give me an example of a number in the 7 figures, that's so fucking much...

The quote you are responding to was a joke by Dion. He did not lose his 55 Ice charm.

I am trying to save everyone a lot of heartache.  I just played my first cata and ppl loved the opportunity to run back to town, shrine, and get back into the cata ASAP.  Now here is where I see a huge potential problem.  UA has a large amount of casters and we like to hit <CTRL> to megacrit.  Now when you run back into town, ppl are trying to throw the shrines in FAST.  These casters are used to holding in this <CTRL>.  If they accidently hit this <CTRL> they have been accustomed to hitting for the past few hours in the cata they will Quick Gear Switch as they are about to shrine.  Basically, unless the megacrit button is changed to something like maybe <Shitf> or <Alt>, then I forsee a lot of poor souls shrining their gear.

Just trying to help prevent some mistakes that I predict are about to quickly spike.  (I prefer Shift Personally with the key placement on keyboard)

Thoughts?

I have shrined 3 items unknowingly this way, when i realized 10 minutes later that i am not doign the damage that i normally am

2 unspawnable caster weaps: (24 int, 3 mpa, 42 mpk, 2 mind numb angelic bronze dagger, because I didnt realize that I had switched to a shrinable angelic bronze dagger... so I didnt notice the difference until I went to try to put it in vault and it was not in inventory)
(43 str, 24 int, 13 vit, 55 mpk elm club)
and a 134 ee, 2 exp level 20 fire were sacrificed in this manner

i wouldnt mind seeing a slight change in the button required for megacrit

I have NEVER shrined anything worth mentioning before this implementation, but I ahve learned my lesson on this, I was mainly hurrying shrines when I was in a cata with randoms and had to shrine a lot because i was healing them
