Motivation to fight is one thing, but the few times we may have not to fight is always a welcome break.

I joined during a time of war. I'm ready to fight as needed.

I was there before it went down, I saw a bunch of bored males eager to get their weapons, get on a plane and start fucking shit up. I wouldn't call this "willing" I would call it a frenzy of excitement. Soldiers want peace like George Bush wanted a college education.

I have truly enjoyed this topic. It has personalized many of you and reminds me that we are all human, and we should treat each other accordingly.

Where did I say that he couldnt use a symbol of peace? I just thought it ironic.

Really though, why does anyone pick up a gun if not to use it?
I am sure there are many military men/women who want nothing more then peace but there is two sides to the coin.
I am sure there are others who as soon as 911 happened, joined the military with nothing more in mind then to kill terrorists..

Coming from a military background, we prefer the P.C. term of "restoring and protecting freedom" instead of "Killing terrorists (or insert other group or nationality)

It's quite simple really. Just another way of thinking. What's to stop the "terrorists" in this case radical muslims, from doing what they want(killing anyone that isn't muslim). The answer is simple, we fight to defend ourselves and our way of life. If we didn't have a military, they would come here and kill with impunity. They have voiced their desire to do just that and have proven that they will try to do that. Although many of us would like peace, we also know that there are bad men out there that want to do bad things to us, having the means to stop them often times works more than using that means.

Case in point, Why is Israel still in existence? It's surrounded by countries that want them dead...so what is stopping them from simply going there and annihilating everyone? There are only 2 reasons they don't make a massive assault on Israel. Israel has nukes(and will use them) and the U.S. has stated it won't allow anyone to do that.

There are "kids" that join the military just to go kill people and not go to jail for it. Many many more join to protect their families and friends because they know that if nobody stands up for us, then we will be indoctrinated into islam or killed(using the current "terrorist" agenda). People pick up guns not with the intention of using, but hoping that by being there they won't have to. Would you pick a fight with people guns when you didn't have one?

Anyways, I only posted because you give many of us that have served a bad rep by your comments. If you wish to discuss this further, please pm me and we can have a discussion on it.

Edit: The part bolded in the quote is exactly the same as saying the only reason police have guns is so they can kill people. I think everyone sees the folly of that, they have guns to protect us and don't want to ever have to use them.
