I'd like to see a test with the same lvl, same combined stats:

a) axe with equal str + dex
b) axe with more dex than str
c) axe with more str than dex
d) comparable dagger with equal sum str + dex

I would like welcoming axes back, but i doubt it because...

So your axes do more damage on lvl 54 mobs than they do on 65mobs? Nice great way to compare oranges with apples.

Not sure what axe you are using but my HH on hardcore with a 194ee axe and 151/151 does just as much damage as your second screeny.

But I thought you couldn't slash without a 1700avg?

Pretty sure my mq sword does that xD

Something was tweaked--I can attest to it. My avg dmg last melee cata with my daggers was less than 1250 on my MQ dmg compared to over 1600 using the same gear w/o glyphs. Where I used to crit a lot, I very rarely ever had a crit.
I've also heard the same thing about axes from multiple ppl--it was boosted though.

I'll need another run to be more scientific with my methods, but I'm 100% sure something was changed for daggers. My first impression is that the booste that was given to them has since been removed.

How do you think I got to lvl 65? I had to hit lvl 45, 46, 47, etc, in numerical order. I had the same average at 50-53 that I had at 56-71 using the same lvl 45 axe. The difference in average was +/- 10 points, as it fluctuated a little every level.

You thought wrong, I never said this or, as far as I know, gave that impression.

here is the gear, so you know what axe I'm using...not that it matters since it's the same axe and the stat points are only 6 different.

Magical tempered diamond axe
Level Req: 45
Damage: 516 to 619

+200% Enhanced Effect

Angelic pixiesilk padded robe
Level Req: 50
Physical Defense: 0 to 33
Magical Defense: 31 to 78

+42 Strength
+33 Dexterity
+20 Life Regen
+1 Jubilance

Mythical ice I
Spell Damage: 6 to 7
Mana Cost: 5

+45 Strength
+30 Dexterity
+18% Experience Gained
+2 Critical Strike
+1 to 61 Life per Kill

Okay, so I was told that axes were given a boost and not to sell mine(too late).  So I borrowed the 45 axe I used for my other tests and had a character ready.  The s/s speak for themselves knowing that the same axe was used.  Thanks Paul for listening and resolving this little hickup.

There is a slight difference in points, but not enough to make up for the damage difference

AXES ARE BACK!!!!

Excellent! I was really worried about using axes again! Thanks for the testing! :D

Kind of non related since I used a different axe this time, but w/ a better axe, previously my average was 950.

I would be interested to see if the ratio of 1:1 on axes has any effect on crits.

So in effect, testing an unbalanced ratio.

I just got back my axe set last night and will test out pure str, pure dex, even, and partial str/dex builds to see if it makes a difference. I was quick to test the nerf out and let the community know axes were nerfed. It's only fair that I'm equally fast saying it's been corrected. I haven't had the time or the axes to test the new boost to axes out properly though. Since I do have enough proof that they have been boosted, I posted that up so people would know for sure that it is being addressed.

I also have another test in the works to see if axes and daggers are on the same playing field.
