I can pretty much 100% guarantee that CS does not ignore defense. Simple test is to play a catacomb game and observe your average crits. Use that same weapon/stats against arena monsters/well mobs and your crits will be significantly reduced.

** This may not be very noticeable with swords since they go all over the place, but do it with axes/daggers and it'll be painfully obvious. With my MQ axe I see it go from about 1900-2k (catacombs) to 1600-1800 (arena) on the higher end range. I'm not saying with certain item mods/luck that you can't achieve the same high crits, but that they are in fact greatly reduced in occurrence by a mobs defense. That is what I've seen from my experience at least.

arena mobs and well mobs have higher dexterity. This lowers your CS multiplier which results in lower CS.

Again, your dexterity compared to the monsters dexterity is one of the factors that determins your CS damage. Monsters defense is not one of them.

The other factors are your weapons damage and those weird mods criticul flux or w/e it's called.

Totally true. I tend to group dexterity with defense in my mind, so I wasn't really thinking about it on an individual level when I made my post. My gut would tell me that a user with EE armor (and lower dext) would take lower crit damage too, but I haven't tested this specifically. I think you may have already mentioned that test within pvp matchups, but I 'm too tired to pay the proper attention. :lol:

That would be a distinction I hadn't really made since I always use a relatively high dext level and, as I mentioned, generally group that as an overall "defense."

Lol still going to have to disagree with taht part:

+ Critical Strike - Increases your chance to perform a powerful melee attack.

+ % Armor Pierce - Gives a % chance to ignore the target Defense for your melee attack. Lowered target defense will result in more damage dealt.


Still a very nice compilation of info. Will be testing a few of these out on my next climbs.
