I think what you mean to say is: With a regular robe you get half of the physical defense and one-fifth more max magical defense. Since both robes and paddeds provide a lot of magical defense compared to subpar physical defense, the main damage taken while wearing such an armor is physical which makes ee robe the only fail item possible with high ee.

I wrote an example using a 150 ee lvl 55 armor of all 6 types on a char with 60 vit and 25 int here:

I'll pull out the "robe" vs padded so you can see for yourself why ee robes are trash.
