Come play Heroes of Newerth(DoTA 1.5) until DoTA 2 comes out. You've probably seen videos of it or even played it, but just incase you havent its literally DoTA with reliable servers, updated graphics, and a match making system. In my opinion it beats the shit out of LoL and if you're patient enough they have sale weekends where it only costs $10 for the game.

LoL is 10x better than what HoN is. Sorry. 0$ for unlimited fun.

Alright, it seems most ppl are thinking that small tweaks to current game play are going to bring ppl to the LS login screen in droves.  I believe we need to think big picture here tbh.  However, before I step up my soap box I want to touch on the below comment:

The current speed of climbs is absolutely perfect!  RL obligations make 4+ hour climbs unreasonable.  Check the research, there is a reason games like WOW opt for games to be 1.5hours to 2.5hours.  Paul has the timing perfect atm.  If ppl want the season slowed down, add an extra 4 and 5 door class.  Problem solved.  derDrops, this particular suggestion will hurt LS quite a bit.


Alright, now back on task.  The purpose of this thread was to get more ppl playing this game.  How do we do this?

  • Advertise 
      Think about all those facebook games that have millions of ppl playing them.  Many aren't written for fb, but there is advertisement there which gives a nice 1 page overview with a link to click to join an offsite game.  Guess what, this could be easily done for LS too.  Pulling from millions of ppl could easily have say 1% try out the game that click the link.  Imagine LS with over 10,000 new ppl starting up this month!

  • Advertise Everywhere
      Don't miss out on opportunities to talk up LS in the DF and other threads.  d2jsp.org has hundreds of thousands of GAMING members.  Think of LS as a blessing you are compelled to share with the world!  Many have tried it and don't realize all the changes that have been made to the game and need a revisit.  Even more so are ppl who have yet to visit LS--lets show them what they're missing ;)

  • Keep our guides up-to-date.
      Maintaining a place for first timers to initially draw basic knowledge from is vital for newcomer retention.  Not only does this help make stronger beginner groups/players, but it also reduces the elementary questions posed in thread and reduces the need for veteran players to handhold and repeat similar advice over and over again.

  • Follow the Golden Rule
      Luke 6:31 "Do unto others as you want others to do unto you."  It's simple, if you want to build this player base, work on retention.  Be nice to ppl and they're more likely to stay.



Even getting 1000ppl playing LS at all times would completely transform this game and I think that's Easily possible.  Imagine what 10,000 ppl would do for us.
I hope that some Marketing Minded ppl team up with Paul and the current culture is to not accept simply resting on the laurels.  This game has some many more plateaus yet to reach :)


I agree with all of this except the facebook part. There is not gear out there to support 10,000 people right now. If this was done the drop system would need to be revamped.

I personally love the 2 hour climbs because it allows for people to enjoy this game and not have it interfere with real life. Now that arena is gone the game is not a 15 min here 30 min there game any more.

Back in season 9 there was almost always 200+ players online, thats more than double the current. Even if we could get back to that it would improve the game drastically.

The difference? With arena, 30 minutes was a good 10-15 levels. Now it's what, 4 levels, 5?

However, it's not that people cannot do it. It's that people simply see no advantage in doing so, when a half hour for 4 or 5 levels compares to a half hour for 20 levels group. The difference is, most groups don't want people who aren't there for the full run. Full run takes an hour and a half to two hours. So, they want the fast climbs, but don't want to dedicate the time, so they won't play.

Tell me, what makes you think FB gamers, or other JSPers will be any different? What makes you think they'll be any more inclined to sit down and focus for the two hours it takes to do even a basic blacktrack speed climb with a decent group? Especially the other JSP members, many of whom have already tried the game and quit because it was too hard without investment, and they didn't wish to "waste fg on this basic game"? Bah.

I don't buy the "evangelical" message, nor do I buy the bible verse. Especially not from a guild that patently refuses to play with people who don't have good gear. "Come join this game, so I can shun you until you spend $10,000 on fg to get gear that makes you minimally acceptable to climb with." Yeah. Right.

The difference is I dont feel like spamming G and playing whack-a-mole. I dont care if arena took me 8++ hours per climb, it was more fun.

the system is now designed to let the veterans weed out the rookies, isn't this what you all wanted?
all the godly players complain that no one is good enough to play with them anyway!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

not to mention guild points are all but worthless now considering it takes next to nothing to achieve them.

I bet if thier was somewhere for the rookies to play where thier not being booted and called losers they might play, what option do they have left?
spend 3 weeks on 1 climb? does that really seem fair to the new people. Does it even sound like fun?

how to bring people to this game ? no idea. sorry. im not a game master. maybe by putting a 200ee item on every created char to help beginners ? probably would help for more peopl to play.

offtopic , for people posted above :

i dont mind taking a low geared guy into the run. as long hes clicking and showing actions / using skills. but if there are 3 lower geared guys in my run, it takes ages , and it becomes dangerous ( for my realm )

also i dont really like black runs. most stupid thing ever. only benefit: you are 30-60 minutes faster . but no evils, no quests, no drops for skillers, no fun , falling asleep.

at the moment the timeline from start out to having fun is extremly high, even more if starters won't or can't invest.
back in the old days there was a way to start out with close to nothing.

but im just repeating what every1 know...

i think the difference was the old muting system
anyone could get there hands on almost anything
and it could turn into almost anything else
it was simple
non time consuming
and rewarding

and for everyone talking about the 2 hour climbs
u know it cant be done by new players
its still a 4-6 hour journey of grind klik grind

we can see the fun/time factor
and it is appreciated by the already established LS players
but still not enjoyed by new players

and when was the last time any of us volunteered to put aside our own IRL responsibilities
to spend 4 hours or more
to slash with less experienced/new players?

except for a few, and kudos to them,
its us that needs to make the game more inviting
not paul
