edit: Your are a perfect person to test this.
Throw in a low tier ice charm in the well.
Use your main & one with rank 0.
Have both characters take a bunch of hits & record the avg's from the ice attacks of that same mob.
Don't wear armor but some +hp gear should keep you from RiP. Healing yourself will keep from getting booted to town.

If you have a decent group and the off class caster has decent int/mana gear then everything should work fine. You can have absolutely ELITE off class casting gear, but if the group is not clicking or if someone keeps going afk then it won't matter you'll need fish/glyphs anyways.

I think it just comes down to having people who click. I run decent int/mana gear and when we do guild only climbs I don't run outta mana as long as all 5 are clicking and we are not the best 5 clickers by a long shot.

If you get near leveling and you run outta mana, just swap to your melee weapon for that last bit until you level.

I wouldn't recommend off class casting though unless you have decent + gear for it.
