Game mechanics either core are the same. Skill is not a requirement, only the approach to continuing and mostly the willingness to continue. Want some examples:
Trap Doors: (only issue is that it takes more time killing monsters with little reward)
... So you want to explore Trap Doors, well it is simple, if you have the gear and killspeed to continue on, you can do so, but if you do not, you can just whistle on the spot and level up for more stat points for Damage (Strength or Dexterity or Intelligence), now as for some others, they may want more Vitality because they have not reached their ideal number. If you fall into more than one Trap Door, you can still use whistle and level up before continuing to Explore.
Soften the Sneaky Shell: (Excluding Guardian) ... in reference to solo.
... Have three(3) Intelligence Items (35+ Int) in your Vault, even if your Cast charm has no Enhanced Effect, but like 30+ Intelligence. Noted this is around level 35-45+. If you have the patience to Cast, go to town & Regenerate your mana pool, you will eventually kill off Soften the Sneaky Shell. This is what I use on my Samurai & Paladin (base 30 int by then), takes time:
Magical tempered diamond sword
Level Req: 45
Damage: 24 to 241
+33 Intelligence
Angelic tempered diamond plate mail
Level Req: 45
Physical Defense: 46 to 140
Magical Defense: 0 to 18
+16 Vitality
+38 Intelligence
+8 Life Regen
+2% Mind Numb
Magical lightning X
Level Req: 35
Spell Damage: 12 to 125
Mana Cost: 77
+44 Intelligence
Again, no skill, just how the player approaches it, same as people using Magic Luck gear solo'ing, Welling, skilling. As a Hardcore player, I could choose to equip my Magic Luck gear for each wave encounter and switch to killing gear and kill, or reduce their hit points and switch to ML gear and then kill ... again, it is up to the player how to approach it and have the perseverance to play that way.
The only difference for the core is the player base... that is all there is to it, if the reverse happened, there would be more gear for Hardcore players and a higher economy, I guess you could say that Softcore has Death Farming and more chances to obtain higher Tier gear.
So, yup, Hardcore needs more players to get more gear. Simple enough.
