I definitely think HC is the way to go for you, if your endgame goal is to see how far you can "pass/graduate your character class" before a reset.
there are enough players on hc that i know have a hoarde of gear muled ft. hardest part you may encounter is a "MQ" weapon with an acceptable amount of ee on it.
as per character class to start feeder level with, myself; i prefer rogue as it can use most gear available, TD detection, and stat wise pretty well balanced.
as most others have mentioned. primary gearsets that will get you from feeder to alch are moreso sought after, so they come with the price tag as well.
axes/dags
scales/padded robes - ee
light/wild dex charms
light/wild ee charms
padded robes/staves - int gear
...on HC should you choose to chase after axes and dags, id suggest dumping all stat points into vit until it hits 100. from there everything else should be allocated into dex. ee weapon and armor with life per action/kill helps a lot, and your primary charm should have dex. sides with +life, life per action/kill, are nice too.
as an example: my lvl 40 setup i currently have on my samaurai.
~~Mystical diamond dagger
Level Req: 40
Damage: 187 to 328
+113% Enhanced Effect
+5% Armor Pierce
-1% Mana Consumption
~~Magical fossilized scale armor
Level Req: 40
Physical Defense: 57 to 230
Magical Defense: 29 to 88
+154% Enhanced Effect
~~Mystical lightning X
Level Req: 35
Spell Damage: 10 to 105
Mana Cost: 77
+34 Dexterity
+9 Vitality
+1 to 4 Life per Kill
~~Rare wild heal XI
Level Req: 40
Heals: 25 to 259
Mana Cost: 85
+125% Enhanced Effect
+5% Critical Flux
now.. if you do not plan to fund purchasing fg to get the gear you need, some may advise to get a "magic luck" gear set for "welling". ive been playing for aproximately 8 years, ive purchased fg once. short of that ive been primarily self funded solely through LS. it hasnt been easy, and its not a short road to travel so to speak. i recently had a rip on hc, loosing an estimated 15-25k fg in mq gear
I hope to see you on HC soon, gl, slash safe
