Depending on how much FG you want to spend your best bet would be to buy a decent set you could use for Fighter - Samurai - Paladin (prolly swords).

I would also advice to either sell the Guildpoints you earn ~50 FG each or join an active LS-Guild so they can help you with climbing.

Yikes! OK, I'll focus on STR and VIT and finding EE/INT on weapons, EE/STR/DEX/INT on ARmor, and EE/STR/DEX on Charms

It's also best to add points to vitality early on. Every time you level up, you gain max life equal to the amount of vitality you have. Here on HC, I add to vitality until I hit 100, then I focus on str or dex

Ah, should've known that being a longtime D2 player :D

So, for <20FG, it seems that Level 6-8 range weapons with 50+ EE leaves me with axes. Am I going to be okay with an axe as a fighter for now?

Your best bet would be to aim for swords since you can use them for Samurai and Paladin as well, although they are also most expensive (except for daggers).

You should first buy this sword off the market:

Mystical iron sword
Level Req: 5
Damage: 6 to 60

+58% Enhanced Effect
+1% Parry
+3% Wind Mastery

On Market For: 3.00 fg
Ends in: 7 hours

It's mine, I'll send you back the FG once you got it :)

Take this one as well:

Rare steel chain mail
Level Req: 10
Physical Defense: 17 to 42
Magical Defense: 0 to 17

+79% Enhanced Effect
+6 Mana Regen
