I understand your point here. I do NOT argue it at all. The best way I can explain this is by how I see the game and potential for MY class creation.

Okay, I want to build a character class that is useful for all encounters: Solo / Group using gear that is NOT superior to assist Elite players or Beginners with their goals! Now, I don't want the easy road, I want to have fun, explore and enrich either them or myself during the climb, while doing this I also benefit by gaining proficiency to the items I have access to... hopefully upgrading them at the same time... whistling is not one of my endeavors, BUT, it is not something I would ignore if a friend needed a +1 to fill a spot.

Whistling to me is a waste of time in a game that specifies gaining Ranks takes time.

Obviously you failed to see the point... but... you did express the simplist of things to state... YOU would NOT carry a NEW person to Master Quest BECAUSE they DON'T have the GEAR or the FORUM GOLD to buy NEW gear.

YOU FAILED TO SEE THE POINT... what advise would you give a new person with 0 forum gold and crap gear for a whistle climb (wanting them to fill the 1 spot)? What abilities would you tell them to use? Would you tell them to make a MAGE and use this and that ability? Would you give them forum gold to buy your spare crap gear to aid your group in the whistle climb? What lengths would you go?

Just like the thread asked... what abilities would you choose for et cetera... I just pointed out that it is dependent ON gear, build, and much more... if you want to be blind to these facts, then you are just ignorant in your response.

Id probably go as far as to tell them to give up and come back with fg. Then Id wait ~30 minutes for a 5th, then suggest 4 manning, then go back to soloing. The exact same as I would on HC. First time players with 0fg and 0 gear would actually slow the game down more than just 4 man climbing.

Edit: You should get you shift key checked out... every other word is caps.. looks like a sentence from the spongebob meme...

This is great. We know that person is new, has nothing to offer in your explanation... so, what if your 4 man group was only robed characters? Would you want a Tank to sit in front with just crap 55 gear taking the brunt of the damage making the robed characters safer? What if he was a Guardian, used HEALS and multiheal or healback with salvation with a junk white or non ee 55 focus heal on main as a backup so the casters could concentrate more on damage than healing the party?

Again... group dynamics, gear availability while supporting the "whistle" climb.

Again... it is your prerogative to what you want to do, but, as the topic title states: What Are The Optimal Abilities For Each Class?
There really isn't any other than class build and gear... You can not have the OPTIMUM ability for ANY class if you do NOT have the gear.

EDIT: after your edit, I realised something you didn't... I have CARRIED many people to MQ, here is a quote from VICKY:

putting your "mediocrity" aside, u have put up with waay more in your runs than i do
u are also one of those who "carried" me to mq while i was trying to "catch up" with your mediocrity

your humbleness is a credit

EDIT #2: This is in my profile... I FUCKING HATE THE FACT THAT I HAD TO POST IT HERE... thanks for that fuckwit

occasionally i drag someone to mq with bad/low gear

If I need +1 and the new player is willing to tank/faketank (basically front and all vita) and he has gear for every 10 levels and mq weapon with ~100ee at least

yes then I take this guy. I did this actually a lot in the past.

smh where to start...

1. As long as we had a caster I can tank no problem on robe classes so yeah...
2. if he was trying to play guardian and heal with garbage it would be a HARD no from me. Not only would we be increasing the xp penalty by adding another player but we would not gain any dps and his heals wouldnt even make it to 71 much less 80+. I think you are assuming too much importance on group climbing.
3. The skills used by 90% of builds DO NOT CHANGE. This is especially true for group climbs. A samurai with garbage gear is still going to use the same skills as one with gfg gear. The only difference is the amount you need to charge them. You dont change skill type based on what type of weapon you are using.
4. Nice quote from 7 years ago. Different game entirely. Sorry but helping has to have its limits and mine is where a <90min climb turns into a 120min+ climb. We know you dont care about climb speed though, otherwise you would use more efficient builds and gather real gear again. While Im in the whistle portion of my solo climbs I am more than willing to boost noobs up but at some point I must leave them alone in order to explore safely.
5. Starting to think the "humbleness" Sharp spoke of has been replaced by the idea you are superior due to past good deeds, gear, and achievements paired with the fact you've played for a long time.

This is FINE and Im always willing to help a player like this. He said several times brand new, no gear, no fg... To me and many others that means NO CLIMB.

Your previous post makes sense! My post highlighting my past endeavors is based with different game mechanics, my point still remains even with your opinions, you ARE SELECTIVE in a person joining a group run based ON GEAR to help increase THE SPEED of the run while WHISTLING.

So... what abilities would you suggest they use based on the group dynamics and gear that is selected?

Again... Optimising the best abilities for the group dynamics also include gear availability or specialty.

Riiight... because if you remove the benefit of fast climbs from whistling then Im better off solo climbing and gaining 3-4x the prof while having a chance to find something nice exploring.

I could copy/paste Meridius's post but Im not going to waste my time. His post covers all normal groups and deviating from it would highlight an acute need or shortcoming of that group specifically. The OP didnt ask what are all the builds that will ever be used. He asked for the optimal one and that assumes the team has all of the positions filled properly. In that case you would use what he said and otherwise adjust as needed.
