I miss those days, of course the drops are from the monsters that are spawned, they can be either normal or evil presence.
I absolutely loved when I was a rookie fishing and random monsters and/or items appeared. I appreciated the randomness of it, it also provided a way to get items without having to kill monsters. It was always fun finding a Legendary item from fishing!
I would pay Paul very handsomely to bring that portion back.

The chests spawning mobs just makes sense. Trapped chests should have even better rewards and only open after killing the mobs. The mobs should also be EPs to supplement the chests rewards :) if you are exploring and you are trying to fight so i see no problem with more spawns.
I can see where you coming from about having the monsters appear out of now where. That would not be good.
I also once stated many years ago, that if it were to come back, that in order to fish, your currently player level had to match the tier of the fishing rod being used. That would prevent the mob from being to overpowered and 1 shooting you, allowing you to have higher gears on to be better prepared. I feel that would be a great balance. So for example, if you had Tier XIV rod, you had to be the same level (55) to use the rod. If that makes sense?
