Rogue starts with a higher base dexterity is the reason.... Especially if you're a new player, without a lot of FG to spend. By doing this and getting yourself a set of daggers you can play your way all the way up to the warlock class( except paladin ). The only other gear you'll need is for the paladin who can't use daggers, and then if you should so happen to make it to warlock, headhunter, and alchemist.... By then though you should have a thorough grasp on the game

the only 3 things you need to MQ every class
obviously either stat or ee armors and stat charms would be required as well
This would be why those types of items have the most value compared to weapons like clubs or staves.
