It's an interesting suggestion and I like the concept, but I'd rather see this as a class specific skill / ability rather than a prof
For example: make it a warlock skill and for every 20 points in it you'd be able to have one minion, making it rather useless for classes below WL (sure they could have 1-2 but at the cost of not having other abilities)
Class specific skill, sure, but I would not limit it to only Warlock or just a single class.
The following is just a simplified idea of yours [I think] with some more input.
A new ability for all classes ... in the meantime, call this ability "Assist" (charges up with hits taken).
There are 3 types of "Assist" Abilities that you have to choose from:
1. Caster/Healer [Mage type class] - always rear.
2. Tanker/Attacker [Fighter type class] - always front
3. Tanker/Healer [Guardian type class] - always front
... Note: you can move them if they are pulled forward or knocked back.
Following is just an idea: Each point placed in this ability gives random gear, mana and life (mana / life based on type of Assist chosen)
Tier 1-3 for 1 point
Tier 4-5 for 2 points
Tier 6-7 for 3 points
Tier 8 for 4 points
Tier 9 for 5 points to 9 points
Tier 10 for 10 points
Tier 11-13 for 11 points
Tier 14 for 12 points
... Note: as you can see, this is placing every point upto level 55 to have your "Assist" ability to wear level 55 gear.
... If you choose to add more points to this ability onwards, those extra points would increase the summoned's life or mana by 25%.
Once again, you can still throw on Glyphs, use fish and comfreys as you would a character. The "Assist" is time based before it disappears based on what % you cast/summon it.
As an example:
25% = 2.5 minutes
50% = 5 minutes
75% = 7.5 minutes
100% = 10 minutes
etc.
The downside to having this ability is simple, when you are in a full group, it is useless because there isn't any space for it.
By choosing this ability, it mostly comes down to either having it maxed out early and not using any other ability, or you compromise gear/life/mana to use a secondary ability.
End note: everything just written above is a quick overview of what could be included, it is not even complete.
