Sword here.

The avg dmg of the sword is over 100 higher given x amount of time and the side mods on the polearm aren't enough to make it worth the lesser damage.

Say what? I am confused. Are you saying the sword average dmg is 100 higher then the polearm

You are very welcome. I am curious to see the average with your sword good sir.

I am quite interested on seeing which item be seem'd best.

Mystical sapphire sword
Level Req: 30
Damage: 39 to 394

+119% Enhanced Effect
+3 Vitality
+5% Mana Syphon

As worn by my lvl30 char atm, it cranks out crits near 1K with about a 300 avg, if I remember correctly

Mythical sapphire polearm
Level Req: 30
Damage: 182 to 486

(182+486) / 2 = 334

Mystical sapphire sword
Level Req: 30
Damage: 40 to 405

(40+405) / 2 = 222.5

so in two seconds, the polearm averages 334 dmg, while the sword averages 222.5 every second. id take the sword any day.

not to mention the bug where you try to return to town with a heavy weapon...

(if my math is wrong im sorry, no coffee yet)

Yep. It gets 2 hits to the polearm's 1.

Even with 2x reduction due to defense, I suspect it'll still be higher.

Edit:

To Expound based on jlhromeo's post

Mythical sapphire polearm
Level Req: 30
Damage: 182 to 486

(182+486) / 2 = 334 * 1 hit = 334

Mystical sapphire sword
Level Req: 30
Damage: 40 to 405

(40+405) / 2 = 222.5 * 2 hits = 445

In the time of one hit of the polerarm you could easily have 1000+ criticals with the sword
That's just one 2 hit example, just imagine how much more you'd get out of the sword in the long-run of 30-40+
And you'll take less damage, sword will drop mobs faster than the polearm.

Ok I was averaging about 650-700 with my polearm
That means the sword has to average 325-350 per sec ?

the sword.  reason?  little less damage, but twice as fast.

average damage is what counts, and the sword beats the polearm, hands down.

Plus I never liked heavy weapons, they are so overrated.

The sword does not beat the polearm in average damage.
