I really liked the older version of fishing that included item drops and monster spawns and was quite happy to see it reintroduced.
I tend to like the majority of additions to the game but it is always sad when things are removed.

It is unfortunate to read players reporting that the mob spawns have a chance to break the well. It makes things that much harder for high level fisherman who already had to seek out a well to remove the lowest tiers fish from the drop table. While I understand sharing wells that last forever (for fishing) defeated the purpose of making players hunt them down. It sounds like the minimum and maybe also the average duration of those wells might be oppressively low. I am guessing the days of multiple fisherman being social at a well are gone now that it is every man for themselves.

Three changes I lament the most are the loss of arena and my beloved MCC, Monster Difficulty removed from events & the well being removed from town.
Making people hunt for a well is fine but the old system where one player had to solo the mob without going back to town was an actual challenge that could be failed. The current welling system that allows a group of people that can come & go just makes it a grind that can be done more or less efficiently.
I bring this up because this change to the welling system removed the primary use for fish/comfry.
Fishing keeps getting harder and the fish themselves rendered less and less useful. Consumables now share a cooldown with other actions. Mirror maze runs by the select few (where regen & shrining are not possible) are now the only time fish have a purpose and even then the better groups often don't need them.

The game needs optional challenges. 101's and MM's are all we have right now. I recall at one point Paul mentioned he was considering making trap doors increase Monster Difficulty rather than boosting the mob level. I think that would be an amazing addition to the game that could be enjoyed solo or as a group and trap doors would play a greater roll than just forcing people who don't have a detector to remake their maze.

It looks like a well would last an average of 1-1.5k prof, which is way too low. You already need a well to get rid of white items so if you need multiple wells for fishing too, that's pretty bad.

The easiest solution is to make the wells last about 3 times as long IMO, because you can get about 3-5k prof in a day, so you can at least do that in 1 well.

Or make fishing skip 1 tier in pond per 20 ranks instead of 15 in a well, OR give us 8 more item slots!

So I think at some point it's important to weed out those who no longer play the game or have no clue what they're talking about as well as those who don't fish. Then you take all the people that fish and you post consecutively agreeing on 1 particular idea that would be good enough to keep you all interested in fishing without leaving it broken maybe.
