I was drunk, who the fuck cares besides yourself.

The reason I care about addressing mathematical errors and incorrect reasoning when they are passed off as public information is so that players don't waste time/energy/fg based on bad information. When I first started playing LS there were quite a few people who gave me really great and correct information, Alex was probably top of the list there :) but there were a few people who gave me really bad information and passed it off as expert knowledge. When I see something like this happening, I want to help the next guy not try to do something that won't work (like trying to stack elemental mastery on lvl 15 gear in hopes that it will heal him, since it never will). In any case, it seems like you actually want to know how the game works, not just make stuff up, it's just that you make a lot of mistakes, so I want to help correct those when I can. I was under the impression that you also care, besides myself.

If the game had better drop rates, nobody would bother posting their fail drops

Is it a coincidence that this topic was made Sep 23 2016 not Sep 23 2006? And that there are at least a few times less people playing the game now, than there were around 10 years ago

Why did all these people decide to stop playing all of a sudden? If you check dead ls accounts/guilds a loooot of them have stopped playing somewhere between 2012 and 2015

Probably 80% of the ls community don't want to explore now, neither groups or solo. Most of the people that want to do it are somewhat "new" to the game like me

I can sort of understand not wanting to group explore, because it always seems like someone else is getting the drops, but why do so many people ( mostly old ) not want to solo or even play the game at all?

You can't convince me that nobody wants to find good stuff anymore... it's obvious that the general consensus in the community is that exploring is not worth your time and the older you are in this game, the more it applies to you... so that must mean it's not as worth it as it was before

On the bold part:

The reason most dont want to explore is due to the massive increase in time for a very slim rate of good drops. I remember back to arena where I was finding one decent item every single climb. That doesnt require you to endlessly drive around a maze hoping to find eps so there is even a chance of something high lvl dropping.

Then while we are on the subject of driving... there was a time the maze wasnt 3D so you didnt have to use an action to turn your view at corners. Instead of turning then going forward you just press left or right. This doesnt seem like a huge deal, one extra chance to spawn mobs, who cares. Every turn you take is 2 actions instead of 1. Exploring used to be significantly faster and less trash mobs per area traveled. Above all else.. driving puts alot of strain on the wrists.. before you pressed spawn another monster in the arena and the only other button was run.

The game does have better drop rates after arena was removed. I wasn't as lucky with Arena as Cheeya, I hardly found anything decent.

People left because of constant nerfs to things that was good for getting ahead in the game. I left because Heal Mastery got nerfed, then I stayed away longer because of health issues.

Exploring catacombs is basically up to the people that are playing, I was ALWAYS (& wanted to be) the driver in our groups [Datis / Matt / Chris / Myself] were the main 4, we would have Buf, Atom, Travis, Trevor and a lot of other different people from different guilds fill in the last spot. The thing is, we ALWAYS explored, we had a DROP selection (whiich items could be picked up by whom and nobody else clicked on it) ... thing is, again nerfs made people quit the game, of all people I would think that wouldn't quit LS... Datis, but the nerfs ended his goals in the game (I have already stopped), then Matt, Chris followed... damn... Matt and Chris was suppose to return with me... damn chickens... :D

Once whistling was introduced, that was it... who needs to explore when you can get in a full climb in 1.5 hours compared to 3 hours. People had lives, this was great, they could get in a full run or two instead of the old days parking it at different levels. Then it became constant whistle climbs, I have gear, you can still find gear while whistling, why not just whistle and get more GPs... etc That is what happened to most people that play.

Don't get me wrong, there are those that explore, some groups are now whistling to X level and now exploring to gain any other drops they might get from EPs.

It is funny... I did a shit load of testing, send you a PM to view it and get no response to either, yet you were and are posting to everything else. That is why I took a break from CS testing and posting (outside of my own health issues), because you spend more time on correcting someone instead of replying to someone that thought was helping out, even if I had different hypothesis or theories.

Oh, I must’ve missed it. I thought I already analyzed the results from your tests in that thread! I’ll go back and take a look later today. You definitely did a lot of testing for the crit strike thread and helped enormously. I figured you’d stopped testing because of electricity thing you mentioned or were just taking a break from it like me, before resuming with more tests. Sorry for that!

Old school arena, it was roughly an hour to an hour and a half to MQ. In my time playing, I've personally found 4 200+ ee items (one was a t1 charm I shrined, one was a tXII robe I shrined, one was a massive earth charm, and I forget the other) and 1 item I box muted was 200+ ee as a wild heal. Every mob had the potential to drop something truly amazing. And it was relatively fast. Every mob was an EP with all the potential of an EP.

Imagine that being your first several years on the game. Even after the version update to real time. Then suddenly you are forced to do this maze thing with these underpowered garbage mobs that drop nothing but tier 1, and you will never again find an item like this, which was barely usable at the time it was found beyond like level 15:

Mystical rusted dagger
Damage: 5 to 10

+27 Strength
+32 Intelligence
+1 to 58 Mana per Kill

The game has changed drastically, and in nearly entirely negative ways for those of us who were here from (nearly) day 1. Why don't they come back and play? It's a completely different game, and one they are not interested in. Simple enough.

Well that's exactly what I meant... So why do people care what other people post as fail drops? They are one of the very few "fun" things this game has to offer.. that and prof. There's no PVP, there aren't enough interesting quests and the very few fun ones are nerfed and attempted even less now.

The paradox is this is an entirely PVM, heavily item based game and the hardest thing in it is to find or upgrade your items. Saying the ultimate goal in here is to earn gps or reset, is sort of the same as saying the ultimate goal of playing D2 is killing uber tristram or the ultimate goal of POE is killing elder influenced shaper.

Although that technically might be true, IMO the ultimate goal in any RPG game, specially when it has no PVP, is to upgrade/improve your char as much as you can. That's what gets you motivated to play, who cares how many times you've killed UT or how many gps you have.

Do I think many of the items posted in here are total trash? Yes. But if people want to post them who cares.

I find this game to have great potential of being better. You mentioned a few things why people play the game... their goals:

1. Like me, I play for profs and hopefully upgrading my gear by finding it.
2. Others prefer gear and collecting items to sell off for profit, so they buy up the trash from MP and resell.
3. Rest... to just get guild points / unlock next class... that is their goal.

There are areas that have dropped.

1. Skilling... became too tedious without benefits... might as well be dating your mum.
2. Fun things to do, like objectives, completing catacombs and anything else with decent rewards.

This game has mass potential, the basic platform is already setup. That is why I constantly keep making suggestions, people may not see the worth/benefit of them, but then, they play the game with different goals than mine or others.
