I originally owned a lvl 20 120ee spear and a 118ee lvl 20 dagger. I flip flopped back and forth for a while on my monk last season. In the end I sold the spear because I leveled faster with my dagger.

The polearms side mods are not useful enough to reconsider the loss in dmg from not using the sword.

you always think like doing 10hits each and check both avg dmg's
sword would be as example 300, pole 400
but you miss the fact, that the sword does 600dmg in the time, while the pole does only 400

thats realy a matter of time

if you want to set their total dmg to each other, you have to do 20hits with sword and 10hits with pole

the sword does more damage per second than the polearm, and thus more average
crits mean nothing in this comparison since the same % of crits will occur with each, and the bonus damage % will be the same for each
aka you crit more with the sword in 100 seconds, but the bonus for the polearm is exactly higher so that they are even in that regard (which still places pole lower because of lower ee)
the polearm has less defense to break through but that's inconsequential because of the much higher ee

even if you 1 shot with the pole, you still have the 2 second timer until you can resummon
so that doesn't even help it's speed since a sword 2 shotting is the exact same speed

also, comparing a battleaxe to a sword yields the exact same results, you don't have to be comparing sword to longsword

If the topic creator wants to use polearm, go ahead, we don't care what you use. Over 85% of us would have used the sword, the rest is up to him.

If I had 85% chance to win a lottery, I'd say I take that too.
