I just came back to this game and I personally really enjoy what Paul has done to the catacombs...
The ability to do Stop the Seven Shamans and a 9 wave Evil Presence spawn in a group with less than average damage dealers was a very fun experience for me.
I think the main issue in the current game, all crying over losing muting, arena, proficiency gaining aside, is the fact that the new players are unable to purchase good enough gear to keep them interested/wanted in catacomb games...
In Diablo II, 100 forum gold gets you a very powerful character.
In Ladder Slasher, 100 forum gold invested will just get you kicked...
Now, I have no idea how to fix this, but I'm sure there will be some updates in the future that will help fix this "problem"
We also need to keep in mind that unlike the majority of video games that we are used to (I assume many of us came from "Diablo II") Paul released this game with the intention of updating it as he went along.
If Diablo II were to have done MAJOR updates like Paul has been doing, I'm sure there would have been a different reaction towards that game. Just be patient and see what Paul has in store in my opinion. If you have a serious suggestion -- by all means post it, but as we all know crying about the updates will get us nowhere.
I have refrained from posting my thoughts as I was one of the ones QQing about the update and slammed caster mele chars......the conscensus was I was wrong....which is fine. I quoted this person b/c they were one of the reasons I stuck with this game and kept at it. To my friend Pengu1n....thanks for for all that you taught me and thanks for the runs and glad to see u are back.
i guess my 2 cents on the subject is bring back the well and arena.....this game is about goals at least to me........my goals are get lvl 15 sword prof, get fishing prof to 5, cooking prof to 2, light prof to 5, get guild to 2000 gps, and get back to 100 gps. i havent given up on goals. I run 4 toons and try to plan nightly guild runs or friend runs in our chat. I will post up during the day what lvl I plan on running and what time and it has seemed to work well for out little guild and our friends.
Although I dont agree with some of the changes to LS, I was a military brat and will adapt and overcome and have found a way to deal with the current "situation" on LS and have had full runs on LS for the last few weeks. I have cat'd with most of you on these forums and feel your pain for the people that used to just "solo" or just well. I personally hate going on my 49 monk and finding no groups avail.....for that I just switch to my lock and go fishing...or start a lvl 1 char.
I for one will just continue to "grind" and deal with the game as it is. I miss some of the poeple I lvl'd with like OOOANDAH and Memorial that helped teach me the game but I will continue on and persevere.
If anyone of you ever need a run pls feel free to post up in AB's chat and we will try to include you in our scheduled runs. We accept new members that show themselves worthy or at least trying and remove when necessary. They might not be the UA runs of old but we have a good time and get to the desired lvl.

PS - doubt Paul will read any of this but I wish he would consider his removal of the well and areana.....many old school players miss this and would like them brought back. LS is a fun game and I would like to see more players on it.
