They used em’ in real life, and I think it would be a good game change.
Voted No.
This is why people say that Samurai used spears:
Spear
Yari (槍) is the term for a traditionally-made Japanese blade (nihonto) in the form of a spear, or more specifically, the straight-headed spear. The martial art of wielding the yari is called sōjutsu.
Now. I like this sentence:
Large naginata and kanabō were also popular in this period.[7] However,
as infantry were equipped with yari and naginata, this fashion died out in a short period of time. Furthermore, from the Sengoku period in the latter part of the Muromachi period to the Azuchi-Momoyama period, as tactics shifted to fighting with yaris and guns by a large group of infantry, ōdachi became even more obsolete.
As ōdachi became useless, it was often cut and replaced with a tachi and katana.[8]

I suppose you could say LS v1.15 is the Samurai period of using No Dachi (ODachi) and v3.1 is the Katana period, but the spear (Yari) was for the infantry, not the samurai for certain periods.
