With the next update that comes this will be fixed, the group window will pop up, but it will still be behind the skilling window.

Do you uncheck it when you're in a catacomb? If you do it from town it has always been saved for me at least (UNTIL you log out, then setting goes back to being checked)
But if you do it from town and save setting it will be saved till u log off that character.

I have to say I have lost durability on rods or overcooked fish with the popup happening.

No, I always go to town to do it since as you said, it doesn't work if you do it in cata. It has never been saved(for a very long time) for me, this has been the case for as long as I can remember. It will always get checked again within anywhere ranging from 1 min to an hour It seems like it is turned off whenever someone creates a group in range of your character(?)

Edit: Whatever you did when you created a group like an hour ago caused it to get checked and the group invite popped up while I was in cata.

What suggested has worked perfectly for me so far. 0 issues in the last 2 hours. (on Chrome/PC)

I think what is going on here is that there are 2 bugs related to this. The first one is that it can fail to save the first time you do it and the second is a visual glitch related to the first which will make it look like the box is unchecked while its not. It will remain that way until someone creates a new group in your range, at which point I'm guessing that the game runs a check for if it should send you a pop-up and it reverts it to being checked since it never actually saved the change in the first place. Or something along those lines at least.
