That makes sense. I guess in theory, it doesn't really matter if it's explored or not because any encounter you have is the same as just standing in place whistling, but there's something psychological about it.

My mindset right now, right or wrong, is if I'm not exping as fast as possible to MQ then I'm wasting my time.

this is generally my mindset for this season, however i spent 2-3 seasons just literally finding stuff and making fg to reach a stage where i'm usually one of the top damage players in a group. As a good group whistle climb takes about an hour for 1-mq, this is a lot faster than any way of solo'ing

fastest way to head to unexplored tiles is to make a new group then immediately close it to get a new one.
Depends how much you want to finish the map though.

Yeah, what level range are you trying to compare?

you're not wasting your time but consider that you can beat level 45/55 mobs a LOT faster than you can kill level 71 mobs and that even level 45 mobs can drop level 55 items.
You will reasonably quickly get to a stage of being better off mq'ing then relevelling than to continue trying to press on. Especially with the gear you have now going past 71 will be super slow.

You may actually find a few map drops along the way which people will buy off of you and some of the level 20/25 items can sell for a lot, so it's not a wasted effort.

Evil presences generally have a significantly better drop rate than normal mobs, so exploring is much better than whistling for drops for that reason.

There are specific requirements for this to happen (@ Red section).

You're misleading them that this is a normal occurrence when it is a false statement, there are conditions that include Events, Trapdoors and maybe even Maps and Welling.

EDIT: At topic, the only diminishing returns in this game is when Higher level characters join your group and kill monsters, the Drop rate decreases dramatically for their kill hit. And they get a lot less experience now in comparison to the old days. Use to have a level 1xx constantly helping people from level 1 to MQ when you could not make group higher than 5 levels of game creator. The old "Bridging" technique worked a charm in those days.

Are there any restrictions on drop rate after a certain level?

Also are there any spreadsheets on spawn rates for items / mods?

Other than dropping monster level with whistle, there are level caps on Maps (not catacombs), if your level is higher than the Monster Cap level on a map, the drop rate diminishes.

Just MQ, clear certain Maps (not catacombs) that have high number of EPs and + Level Cap etc (sure there are some mods I am missing) while leveling up to 45 upwards. This will be better for you in my viewpoint.

I play all 16 characters and like to park them in around level 65, then I can just hunt for items while getting to MQ. (do not do this, I am just a nutter :P ) EDIT: it comes in handy when certain event mods benefit drops etc.
