Yes, I gave one reason in my first reply: this would give the feeling that I need to have a separate set of gear while skilling, and that would be annoying and cumbersome.
I also just think that the problems it would work to fix would be better fixed in other ways. I'm not very sympathetic to established players complaining that new players would catch up. But, if we wanted more ways to give some newer skillers a leg up, simply increasing prof gains, or doing events again.
As far as getting more movement in the market, I think buffing other magical stats to actually feel more impactful in combat would be a better way to do this. Of course, I think the tiny player base is by far the most detrimental factor on the economy, and I just don't see doing any work in that department.
