Yeah dont worry about side mods atm.
Just need to get your ee items first.
daggers and axes can get you through all the melee classes.
maybe some ee scales or leathers, dex robes.
Then all the intel gear.

the main thing that helped me as a noob(still real noob) was spending like 10fg on life regen gear.... if caster i assume mana regen would be useful as well.
but as only solo playing right now til i get the hang of things, life regen gear that cost less that 10fg really boosted my kills/hour simply cause i regen my life 3.5x faster
