If I hadn't been invested in the game previously I wouldn't be slashing at all today.
This game peaked years ago and so many of the active people that played it are gone. SC is your best bet for group play. In the past 3 weeks I've had 2 group climbs on HC. There are a few guilds that still run HC groups on occasion, but it's mostly a solo core at this point.
Even with you having enough fg to get a decent set of gear on HC, the gear is likely not available anyway.
If you do decide to slash, just know that you're getting into the game super late in the game's development and a lot of people have lost interest.
