The game has become better when it comes to speedruns, which is what the majority of ppl loves.
AS for exploring it has become better with the events that changes every now and then.
For example this week (400% warmlight effect /// 100% bigger rooms) Which is awesome, some other times it's been 100%+ more ep's and so on and on.

But as for how the game was back in the days, nope not even close.

A run now a days only takes about an hour of your time ...

Between business, wife and child, and among other things. I get splurgies. Can be 10min or 2 hour. So I can't really rely on myself to do a full set. Like now for example I have to keep getting up to do things even at midnight lol. So what I guess I'm asking is what's the best build for me to solo? Is it 100 vita axe barb?

With your budget you certainly don't need 100 vit but yea I'd go tank barb

100 vit heavy weapons all the way!!

But to be completly honest if your playing sc 80 vit is more than good enough to tank solo.
As for the axes thats more of what you prefer. Clubs are cheaper but axes are more consistent on dmg.
And if you throw in a dagger set with axes you could go from feeder to warlock without needing to buy any other gear.

If you still havent given up the idea playing guardian you could msg x17 for some tips and tricks to make it easier, and he could probably lend you gear also!
