There are always bugs in games. If you dig hard enough or play long enough you'll find them. The question is, if this is something that will be looked into or needs to be looked into. All hardcore players won't mind this it and the softcore players that get killed are doing something wrong. Take it as a hidden effect. Don't die or you will be punished. It's hard to say this was a bug though because there's no real way of proving it other than the fact that more than one person has seen it.

Hell there's a "bug" which occurs sometimes when you click on an item at the last second and it just disappears and then appears again in your inventory 5-10 seconds later and doesn't show who picked up the item. It's really irrelevant and almost fun.

edit: not a solution to the problem, but the confirmation that this is indeed an issue
there's no "clicking too fast and re-entering", the catacombs are blocked for me for a few seconds after exiting them, and if you can click them in a certain timeframe earlier then that, then that's an unintentional bug to my understanding

the only solution: play hc! you only see the "You have died." message once per character there.

Just happened to me, fighting a single normal monster (not EP) level 127

Monster type:
Twintile --> special ability: Intertwining head strike (double strike)

No other monsters were present, so I was definitely killed twice at the same time by one monster, by its special attack (which I saw happen). I didn't click at all within 5 seconds of my death (before or after), I was just autocasting attack charm when it happened, so there is no chance that I re-entered cata. I didn't even click red door or eat fish.

Each hit was a critical strike against me for more than my remaining HP

Hypotheses:
If Intertwining head strike works like Samurai's twohitback or Monk's doublestrike, then it can perform two attacks on a single target at the same time (unconfirmed if these hits are simultaneous or if there is some latency between them). If the first attack kills the target, and the second attack also kills the target, then the target will die twice.

As an aside, I would go back in and test this some more... but I don't want to

Just to clarify, I'm posting this because the two topics (this one and the link directly below) had people saying that it was a bug and others saying that there was no bug, and instead those dying twice clicked back into catacombs too fast. However, none of the posts mentioned a monster type or gave details about the attacks causing the double-death, so I figured I would provide these details. I'm not in a rush to see this resolved because I don't really care much about profs, but I hope that if Paul decides to work on fixing this that my information helps.

Happened the same to me while welled.

The monster was Huntaguar: Wind Fist Attack (physical + wind)

May I suggest that you try the following, if you are not already doing so:

1. Disable Ctrl-Click on Door to Return Town
2. Disable Auto Hold Attack
3. Do not let your life drop down to ridiculously low levels.

Yeah - I know it sounds like Captain Obvious talking,
but any of those settings being active could delay an
escape from an overly aggressive mob.

I just told as information... That mob has double attack and i'm double died, pretty sure there's some connection between the 2 facts.

I have had that problem years ago when game was flash and i was playing softcore. Yes i was a hero aswell and thought i can fight down to 10 / 15% life before regen. Well, i learned thats a bad idea

As in the old version there was only 1 mob you had your mouse in the screen middle, when you died you got kicked to town and the catacomb sign was right behind that. Yes it happened to me aswell, i double died because i reentered the arena in my clickmania.

In the new version its highly unlikely to have the mouse right where the catacomb sign is to reenter, since i think most people resized/ scrolled the Ls window. Im not playing softcore and do not intend to delete some char for testing this. But can someone check with a mule if there is a cooldown after dying ?
Im positive its impossible to rejoin instanty,this could have been changed or i could be wrong but i would love to learn. tyvm for support :hug:
