I made my first 2 or 3 climbs in hc solo few months ago, with selfound stuff. So it's completly possible to do it. The 1st climb will be your easiest one, as you will have only 2 monsters max per wave.

Ummm... Its safer to spin. (Or whistle) No EPs and no quest mobs. Drops are better exploring but if you can't kill EPs... might as well whistle it up.

not impossible at all, have done 1-71 self found a few times, even did the with a magician(never again)
just takes time and patience to get it done

Stick with fighter, I myself prefer Guardian... even though it has little access to items, I prefer the healing aspecs and the starting vitality / energy, and hope for a 2 handed weapon...
