Is there a point in fishing for level 2-4 fish then, instead of just level 1? (if I need to get up to 5th to actually get different, better fish)

not really no, i mean once you get to rank 3 or something maybe then u'd wanna go up and do level 5s instead of 4 so u will be able to catch the higher one, but atm, i'd stay at lvl 1 cause it would just be faster in general.
it's w/e u feel is fast enough and works for you, maybe you get some more prof gain if u do level 2 instead of 1, idk. It will really be minimal prof anyway.

fishin at rank 3 with a 65+ dura tier 3 rod for level 5 fish will get u more exp and tier 2 fish (for later on cooking for exp gained tier 2 fish as minimum )
because u can rank up cooking faster than fishing, more exp gained

I'll consider this a rumor

or is this under the assumption that you have a permanent supply of your minimum tier to cook?

Imo, fishing / cooking is the same speed, sure u get more prof for each cook u make, but it takes double as long as 1 fish to skill. so it's kinda the exact same thing, except that u need less fish to get the ranks.

what I meant is that you cannot supply yourself with enough fish to level up cooking at the same time as you do with fishing, but you might be right on that one, too

I think it goes hand in hand pretty well tbh, if u look at my ranks (r15 fish, r14cook) and i got tons of t4s prolly to get me to rank 15cook aswell.



Also, idk if it actually will be a better +prof/hr doing higher levels since you add more time.
Like if u do ur regular level it will take u prox ~4-5 to fish, if u add 2-3levels on that your fish will take almost 10sec instead. Sure it will give u a higher prof, but u would have been able to do 2 fish instead of one in the same time meaning ur level would have been better prof.

Also, once you get to rank 14 u will save time fishing from a well since u will skip t1 fish completly! to skip t2 u need to fish for 30s
but ofc u could already fish for level 15 when you're rank 10 if u want to, it just means every fish will take longer time, but it will still not give u any t1s = better fish for ur cookingprof

Up to 14 it's okay because you only have 3 tiers.
I am at 25 in fishing and 18 in cooking, where I get 6 tiers of fish (5 if I go for a well), of which 3 (or 2 in a well) are entirely useless.
I cannot cook T6 (because they're too high) and I don't want to waste T5 because I'll end up with rather low percents on them and I'll need them once I hit 19 in cooking
That leaves me with a sixth (or fifth) of usable fish for cooking, which makes it slow as hell in comparison...

but that's partly my fault I guess for not wanting to use the chances on the higher tier fish, right? I just feel it takes much longer. not just because I have to catch more fish (in order to rank up in fishing, and to get more fish for cooking) but because a bigger part feels useless for that aspect

Yeah you're right, once u get to higher levels as urself I guess it will be harder for your cooking-prof since you actually get so many different tiers of fish & not too many of them gives u prof lol, more like half of them gives u prof.
If I was on your level I would most likely fish in a well, but i would probably actually try to go for 30s just to skip out of 2 tiers, also u getin 1 tier higher aswell. so that'd mean you get 3-4Tiers that you need
