so why do they list different amounts of damage then?

they all do around the same average

some weapons are more... reliable?... than others on that dmg tho

axes are the most consistent dmg

so something that say 30-73 damage can do the same damage as something that lists 104-307 damage ?

look at the tier of the item

the higher the tier the more the average will be if ee is the same

weapons of same tier and ee will be about same average overall though

it only depends on the tier and the ee of the weapon. the next question is which class can use it. the shown dmg depends on the tier and the ee and then on the str and dex (check out the ratios before you buy your stat gear!!) you cant directly compare all weapons though.. because axes show lower dmg than daggers but crit a lot more often which lets them doing about the same dmg like daggers.
you will get the most dmg per forum gold if you buy the cheapest weapons which are staffs and clubs.. but if you pass a mq and want to play sammy you can buy the next weapon set ^^

The tiers define the level of characters that can use the item, they are uniform from armor to weapon to charm. Higher tiers have higher base stats. the thing that's different with each weapon is the range of the damage/defense.

Tier III = level 0
Tier XIV = level 55

And all the others in between go by 5 levels. So tier IV is level 5, tier V is level 10, and so on.

Weapons which are the same tier and same EE will average about the same. Which is why I said before that the only difference is which class can use them. I'd recommend just worrying about one class for now and not thinking about what happens when you hit samurai (because they have to use either swords or daggers and both of those are rather expensive)
