TY I am new also -

** I ran into a pack of monsters at lvl 14 on my character and it filled the whole screen with mobs while I was solo - is this some kind of event?

Some mobs spawn mirror images of themselves. It’s random to my knowledge which bosses spawn, but I’m sure the monsters list will provide info on which can do this mechanic. Like the post above said. Get gear with ee. I’d also add to type in /set easy 1 for your first solo climb. Pm me if you want a leveling buddy. I’ll always explore with new players. I’m a newb myself 💁‍♂️

Pretty much on track.

Slugslider (blue) = Call for Help (+1 at a time randomly) ... this one I believe has a higher % chance and can fill up the screen faster than others.
Gigabee (bee) = Call for Help (+2 at a time randomly)
Fremlin = Same with some differences. (+2 at a time randomly, also slight change in their sizes)
Forgot name, but the flower looking one, you get it 50% & lower in hit points it will call for help (all types of monsters) and can switch places with another monster on the screen.

Some counter measures that may work:

Flower: Kill off Last: if it spawns too many, look to see if a monster is healing it, then let it heal up the flower, kill off the rest and then Flower last.

Slugslider ... kill off healers, whittle each of them down to a few pixels, regen and try to kill them off. Note: at times, I will attack the newest one spawned and try to kill it before another is called... this works at times.

Fremlin + Gigabee ... same as slugslider if it gets out of hand.

Other option... Exit game, if you have not created a game, then create a game and then exit game, this will reset your catacomb. I normally create a game before entering a catacomb (before playing) and continue from there.

Hope this helps

There's also this if you're curious
https://ladderslasher.d2jsp.org/index.php?g=21

But yeah, as it says, it doesn't contain all monsters, and some of the listed abilities may be nebulous too

Some abilities are naturally more noticeable than others, like our little friend goocidic's

Now this is a good example that I missed explaining for a new player.

This monster has a % chance to ignore Melee damage, there is also another monster that has the ability towards Magical (Elemental) attacks, however they are not as dominant in appearance (note this is my coclusion playing for a decade or two)

HOWEVER ... there is an Objective that renders Physical (melee) attacks as near useless "Soften the Sneaky Shell", and it doesn't matter the type of monster that spawns.... the only fastest way to kill off Sneaky objective is by casting elemental damage.

I play Guardian as a feeder, so when I come across this objective, I re-create game so it never appears again (latest updates made this happen). So, that is why you see people asking for others to help kill Sneaky off by using a Caster.

However, even a Barb / Fighter can kill off Sneaky... it depends on +int items and maybe (MAYBE) a minimum of 30 intelligence (depending on build) when solo'ing and NOT asking for help... yup, the +int items are in your vault just in case... you can test it out personally, but having a person join your game that is a full caster will be faster, so it is up to you.

EDIT: Goocidic now has another ability to reduce your current experience points.

dont play.
bad idea.

Yeah, that is like telling all (ALL) gamers not to play the game... you have to click to excel, however, if you don't, you don't excel... same as saying that a person should never buy a Raffle ticket (lotto) ... you don't do anything, you don't get anything other than being in the same situation ... be a bot controlled by ??? ... I will leave it up to the reader to choose their choice in the matter and not preach what should be done.

You go into catacombs. You move around. You click monster pictures. You kill them. You loot them of their shit. You equip that shit to grow stronger. You build up a gearset for thousands of climbs. Rinse, repeat.
