Reducing movement does help speed wise and not gaining too much experience. I still have to ask some questions.
When you remake the game, how many squares do you clear out to decide to remake game?
Do you clear like 15 tiles into a dead end and then remake game?
Do you get to a certain amount of squares cleared and remake game?
There are some reasons why I am asking.
#1. You could have created a catacomb with a lot of Open Rooms, however you are spawned in a dead end area where you have to back track... so with your method, you might exit it.
#2. The amount of Evil Presence (tiles) are Random, from 0-???, and you may encounter more EPs in a backtracking Catacomb compared to the Open Room catacomb.
Basically it is up to you, I do remember the days where we would HUNT EPs the way you are doing it, but then there weren't Open Rooms or Death farming and drops were harder. The old clear out X amount of tiles to hunt for EPs, if none show up, then remake game.
I would think maps would be good to use during this event.
For me speed has never been my goal. As sad as it is to say, ive never made it past monk. I understand the joy in climbing and getting better characters. I'm happy keeping it at paladin.
To answer your question, if I dead end, I usually weigh my options and most often start over again.
By backtrack I mean going down a path already cleared. If it's not much hassle, I'll push through. Might be petty but if I have to move about 15 twisty tiles back, that's when I start over.
