I've been glyping my heart out and dumped a stack of 10k essences I've been saving up for years in suffusencing and still cant compete with other skills for prof  RIPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP

Transmuting for these guys that do it all day easily yield 3-4k prof per day or more.
Fishing and cooking gets there even faster I presume BUT ITS NOT AFK.
I'm looking at this event and I feel like everyone quit lol. Xmas is at the end of the month not the whole month lol.

Tyvm for putting this together bigheaded it is a huge endeavour and brings a lot of fun to this boring old community :hail:

Fishing / Cooking prof gain sucks ... you do like 15+ actions and only gain +6 prof points maximum (starting @ Rank 1) ... If you have a Rod with + Durability.. hey, less actions but crap prof as well. On top of that, the +Experience is shtie as well, you may as well just kill off the monsters, gain 0 prof until you reach a higher level vs Combat ranks and gain prof faster.

The game needs more to balance out the junk.

clearly you've not fished very much.

Adding durability ADDS actions not decreases it. This confused me as well when i first started fishing but the difference is significant.
The point is that it will also make it easier.

At 13 fishing i can attempt to catch level 20 fish, with this rod:

Magical oak fishing rod
Skill Rank Req: 15

+31 Durability

I think i'd successfully catch one about 20% of the time and each attempt would take around 12 actions each attempt

However if i used this rod:

Magical heartwood fishing rod
Skill Rank Req: 25

+112 Durability

I'd expect to catch one around 80% of the time but need in the region of 20-30 actions each attempt.

By comparison if i try and catch level 15 fish
level 15 low dura rod needs ~8 actions and is 100% success rate
level 25 high dura rod needs ~13 actions and is also 100% success rate
So personally i don't see any point in me using the level 25 rod to catch level 15 fish, yes you get more prof per fish, but why not just catch more fish, this is the entire reason i'm fishing is to get fish to use/sell, so getting 2x at 16 actions seems better than 1x at 13 actions.

From the competition standpoint
My understanding is that fishing/cooking has around a 80% chance of each action increasing prof by 1. Around 1000-1500 per hour. I've never received more prof than the amount of actions spent and the prof given is usually close to the number of actions
Transmuting is more dependent on what tier, but also in general sticks around 1000-1500 prof per hour
Glyphing from my own testing is god awful, not only is it the most difficult so slightly higher chances of failing, but also the lowest prof per hour of 500-1000, i've been told it gets better, but i am not wasting my time with this to find out. perhaps can enlighten me if 500-1000/h is about right?
Suffusensing on the other hand is it's own mess. With the right event it's possible to gain around 3-4 prof per action if done in a particular way, however because it needs an event AND it consumes essences, it generally costs more at higher ranks than what the prizes are worth.

I wasn't completely aware of how broken Suffusensing was until mid competition so had no data to nerf/ban it. Saying this, the majority of the prof gained have been fishing/cooking by Cagiva/Jupiter in particular, as this is a very profitable business so it's not necessarily going out of their way to do this and i suspect both of them will give up doing their profs for about 6 months as 1. they've probably done enough skilling recently to not want to touch it for a while 2. they probably also have enough stock to last 6+ months

I've posted this before but for the combat profs:
Healing around 80% chance per action of +1 prof
Casting around 33% chance per action of +1 prof
Weapons around 20% chance per action of +1 prof

In theory i should rebalance this next time round as well.

Also this is a reminder i am closing prof gain in 23 hours and 17 minutes from this post.
My intention is to release results/prizes on the 25th

I wish I had read this before lol, I had no idea that it works like that, I was literally brain dead clicking with any rod I had available at the time - and I snapped too many of them

Anyway, you are right, I already miss solo climbing and propably will take a break from skilling profs (except for muting when I'll get full mules of items) for some time

Not that I wish to continue off topic, but this doesn't align with what I've seen.

For fishing: I believe, with little formal testing, and only a some experience in the skill, durability has no effect on the number of actions it takes to catch a fish. It only has an effect on the number of strikes (i.e., actions) the rod can withstand.
It is the level of the rod you're using, the level of fish your catching, and your prof level that determines how many actions are required to catch a fish.

I will explain how I believe it works. Note: The following is for explanation purposes only, as I have not collected any real data.
While fishing, consider the top bar to represent the rods HP and the bottom bar to represent the fishes HP.
A Tier I rod has 25 base durability (HP). A level 1 fish can strike the rod for 1-5 damage each action. Therefore, the rod should be able to withstand anywhere from 4-24 attacks (avg 9) from the fish before breaking (dying).
Durability effectively increases the max HP of your rod, so a Tier I rod with 25 added durability will have a max HP of 50. Allowing that rod to withstand 9-49 (avg 19) attacks against the level 1 fish.

On the other hand, from the fish perspective, the level 1 fish has 25 HP, and a players attack can do 2-10 damage. The player should catch the fish within 3-13 attacks (avg 5).
A level 2 fish may have 35 HP, requiring the player to perform 4-18 attacks (avg 6).

Your prof level determines how efficiently you can use a rod.
When a player uses a rod above their prof level the efficiency of the rod is decreased, making it only 80% effective, reducing their possible damage to 2-8. A level 1 fish now requires 4-13 attacks (avg 5) to catch the fish.
When a player uses a rod much above their prof level the efficiency decreases further, 60% effective, resulting in a possible damage of 1-6. Level 1 fish requires 5-24 attacks (avg 8).

Maybe this makes sense, maybe not. Again, these numbers are purely hypothetical, and I just made them up while writing this.
It's unfortunate that there aren't any descriptions of the game mechanics.

This is incorrect 100% i can send you a video now of a vastly different amount of actions needed if you really wanted.
imagine the durability of the rod caused a reduction in the amount of damage you do.

So lets say 125 hp fish with 5-20 damage as a level 10 fish
Now lets suggest we're rank 9 prof and able to catch them with a 0 dura rod
Elm rod with 0 dura lets suggest has 75 health and deals 12-18 damage
Elm rod with 75 dura, so 150 health, i would suggest this one is now only dealing 10-15 damage.

There is a difference and can be EASILY proven.
Try and catch a level 3 fish with a 0 durability tier 2 rod and a 50 durability tier 2 rod.
You'll find the difference pretty fast.

This has been a great event. I've got a list of all my healers for future climbs now. No excuses! If they can no-life grind 10 prof per wave healing themselves with a t1 white charm they can sure as hell heal a climb.
