fishing you kind of have to click due to needing to hit the snag counter.
In general the rule to fishing is to click reel as soon as it starts,
then for all further clicks, wait till the red bar moves, then click. you lose like 0.2 secs per click but it avoids missing when you need to click snag counter and given it's only 2 seconds you lose max using this method, should be 100% safe.
Also a case of using the right rod, using a lower durability rod is actually faster than using a high durability rod, but a bit less consistent. So depending on your current prof and what fish you're trying to catch which rod you use will change. i personally spam fish so i stick with 40 dura or less rods and fish upto 5 prof ahead during a 40%+ faster fishing event.
Also fishing is generally a lot faster than muting from what i've seen. Even the level 15+ fish still take 10 clicks max and down to about 5 clicks during a good fishing event. Muting takes entire minutes for the later ones.
i personally do not have that patience for muting.
If you MQ less than twice per week, i would suggest ignoring it myself, better off spending the time killing mobs for the chance of a good drop to slowly work on something which requires about 30 hours to get to a spot where you get something worth selling.
That's just the decision between:
* Hoping for loot with small or big potential income (or nothing)
* Having a fix income due to skilling
After it takes time, I personnaly skills more than I play but most of the skills require lvl 15-20+ to generate fg.
Fishing to get a stack of ~500fish of a kind it's like 10-12k proficiency then you have to cook them (2h-2h30 for 500), assuming at a certain moment you will cook all your stack of fish
500 sardine = 1fg
500 herring = 25fg raw / 40-50fg cooked
500 cods = 45fg raw / 85fg cooked
500 trouts= 130fg -180fg cooked
for 10h of fishing <lvl20 + 7h of cooking ~300fg/17h
and of course it gets better time after time
