I've noticed if I well a level 15 I can still get higher drops from the kill. Not sure if there is a cap? Example, if I'm level 60 and well a level 25 item can a 55 item drop?

Most I've seen is about 2 tiers higher than the welled item.

It also seems that welling items closer to your level gives more side drops

I agree. Closer or higher than.

I've found most my best double drops came from items at my Level or higher.

Edit: higher than your level items can be a stupid challenge but it's seemingly the most productive for me if you have the gear.

It's not necessarily close. It's simply the higher the level above your current level the better. You can get upto 3 tiers higher on rare occasions when doing wallabies higher then your current level.

Not heard of this when doing a wellable equal or lower level than your current level.

Side drops are generally more generous as well in terms of quantity

Pretty much everyone answered your questions... roughly some side drops are two levels (Tier) higher than the item you drop in the Well. I have had in the past seen what happens when someone puts in an item two tiers above their (full group at that time) in a Well ... he died and nearly the entire group ... we were all around level 35, he dropped in a level 45 item and he got 1 hit killed and luckily the Guardian kept the other 4 alive as everyone exited to town. The item (after we bridged in our higher level characters in those days) killed the monster that spawned, and it was 164ish% Earth Charm (level 45). Yup, this is what can happen, and it happened on Hardcore.

Outside of the above, you also gain MORE experience points welling items close to your level or at your level. You may notice this on your experience bar that you can get up to +13% gain ... example, you are level 25 (25.02%) and you well a Tier VII item and after killing it, your level will be 25.14%. Note, this is just an example, you can test it out for yourself.

EDIT: The experience gain may need a bit more testing.

Awesome thanks everyone who replied I appreciate it. I was under the impression waiting on high lv to well even low items was best but apparently I was wrong. I need to invest in some low lv ML for welling low level items lol.

I use +Max Life gear when I am level 1 to 20, and use stat gear from level 25 upwards.

At level 1 to 10, I well Tier III, IV
At level 15 to 25, I well Tier V, VI and VII
At level 30 upwards, I try to well items that are no more than 10 levels LOWER than my character level.

I do this for another reason, you have a higher % chance to gaining prof points per action.

Example: A weapon attack has a 20% chance per 100 actions to gaining prof points, whereas, when you are Welling, the 20% chance increases to roughly 80% (keeping within 5 levels of your character level)

So, you can use your Magic Luck gear on final hit and use damage gear for prof gain at the start.

Hope this makes a bit more sense.
